Peter Morgan or Porsche Inspection?

Do i arrange a Peter Morgan independent inspection or have the car taken to Porsche? The car has an extended Porsche warranty and full Porsche service history. The advantage of the second option is that they will then be able to immediately fix anything wrong there and then. The owner has said that anything uncovered by either inspection will immediately be fixed under the terms of his extended warranty but might Porsche make more of a fuss if PM finds the fault rather than them?

Any advice welcome. Cost isn't a factor.

Porsche doesn't need to know that PM found the fault do they? The owner could pass it off as a discovery of his own I'd imagine.

Other alternative would be for you to pay for a 111 point inspection at an OPC and see what the outcome is.

The 111 point inspection is what I mean I think (is there another kind Porsche do?) - I've heard an independent inspection is better than those?

Indeed, a PM inspection will be more detailed than an OPC 111pt check and that's reflected in the cost of doing one of these as well.

If you did a 111, then I can't but help get the feeling that it will be passed off as an ok car.

There will be items for sure than PM will pick up that isn't covered under the extended warranty anyway, but at least "you'll" be able to do something about them in your own time.

When you take it to the OPC for "any" warranty items to be rectified, which may include items the OPC may miss (which they do) you may also be able to get the OPC to remedy any non warranty items at the same time and possibly FOC. :dont know:

Worth a try.

Ok, I've chosen Peter so we will see what happens. I am hoping he will find nothing at all wrong - does that ever happen? Doubtful I guess. The seller himself (who, to be fair, is most certainly a decent and honest man) is 100% convinced it is perfect. We'll see...

FWIW a 111-point check on my Boxster last year did not reveal a dead bird stuck to the radiator that within a month led to my air con condenser failing - which was not covered by my 3rd-party warranty. Cost me another £430 to have that fixed - would have been £600 had I let the dealer that missed the bird in the first place do it.

Just a note on the differences

The 111 Point Checks is done in a Garage thus having access to a ramp etc so you are able in theory to have a better look at the car

The other type of inspections are done on site so for whoever is checking the car is more difficult to have a detailed check of the car as they have little aids with them and it give more emphasis on the paper work of the car as well as obvious defects

I would personally go for a different approach and have the car checked at an interdependent Porsche specialist that they will have access and ability to check the whole car. In general I have seen as stated obvious things that have been missed in a 111 PI as well also I have witness reports from various specialists that were very ambiguous and did not worth the money spend on them

Theo

At the moment, Peter and the seller are having difficulty arranging an appointment. Peter himself actually recommended an independant garage if all else fails (Jaz in London) and as the seller has receipts from there I doubt he would object to that one.

Question: does the 111 check include a reading of the ECU/DME or a test drive? If not it's definitely not enough.

Mark from Stirlings posted a 111 point inspection form somewhere on this forum, but I can't seem to find it.

Having had a 111pt OPC inspection and also a Peter Morgan inspection I would choose a well respected Indy any day over those two. Should be cheaper than PM, should be more comprehensive and honest than OPC, and will put things into context for you (which PM doesnt). Jaz have a good reputation - why not try and get it done there? Just tell them a (little) white lie that they beter do a good job because you will use them for servicing, and that should keep them on their toes. Good luck.

Hi

go easy as I am new to this forum, and new to Porsche ownership.........infact to date I am a confirmed bike man!

That said I am considering going into the deepend on a 2005 Turbo S Tiptronic; deposit paid, going through the pre-checks on it.

I want to be sure it's not got any hidden horrors so I am doing the following 3 things:

1. arranging for a friend who is a Porsche owner and a keen racer to test drive for me
2. arranging for an inspection..............
3. will test drive myself assuming positive response to points 1 & 2.

I am considering using PM, but note the previous posts propose a better way is to go with an independent Porsche specialist.

Any recommendations for the Coventry area?

Good luck with the purchase- I think I've seen an ad for that car, if it is at a Coventry indy... looks great!

No harm in getting someone else to drive the car- keep an ear out for suspension creaks at low speeds, many which only manifest after a relatively long drive, 1/2 hr at least. Make sure you hear it started from stone cold.

Shirleys in Meriden are good, if you want a second opinion.
