Porsche has revealed first details of the 3.6-litre V6 engine that will be slotted into the Panamera line-up this June.

The engine produces 296bhp and 296lb ft of torque, and will be available on two and four-wheel drive versions of the car.

It also offers buyers weight benefits, as it's 66lb lighter than the eight-cylinder unit in the Panamera S and 4S.

Equipped with the PDK double-clutch gearbox, which comes with start-stop as standard, the two-wheel drive Panamera averages 30.4mpg and 218g/km of CO2, or 29.4mpg and 225g/km on the four-wheel drive car.

Buyers can also spec 19-inch 'all-year' tyres with a lower rolling resistance, which lower CO2 output by 5g/km on both cars.

The car will be officially unveiled at the Bejing motor show in April, and UK prices will start from £61,461, rising to £66,929 for the Panamera 4.

Although a totally different car to the 911, as the basic Carrera starts at £64,256 seams quite good value for money.
Looks like a good option to replace the Jensen and 996 as it is a combination of both.

thanks for posting up the story :thumb: (not sure '911uk news' gets up that early in the morning )

£64k OTR price for a V6 Cayenne verses a £66k OTR price for a BMW M5

that's going to be a decision !

:eh!:

I had a good old look inside one the other day. it is a truly stunning car on the inside. Just make sure you don't drive past a reflective shop window!

Yes it looks a bit of a dog in the pictures. When I looked at one last year at the OPC the inside was stunning, front looked quite nice and the rear looked a bit grim.

Its the sort of car that you would probably reverse into your garage so you do not see the rear every morning.I think the styling will take a few years to grow on people.

Although the Aston Martin Rapide looks stunning its about twice the price.
Overall good value for money if you do not go mad on the options,(PCM standard and all I would want is better alloys) adequate performance and something different that you dont see every day.

I've got to admit it, I am warming to it - even from the rear three quarter view.

For sure, it won't win any beauty contests, but it certainly has presence.

Looks rubbish in that red colour, but those consumption/emission figures are pretty impressive for a two-tonne car. Eat yer heart out Aston.

162 mph
0-62 6.8 secs
300 bhp
400 Nm torque

Now that Porsche are back in the VAG family it will be interesting to see if they get to use the bigger diesels, not just the 3 litre V6.
I suspect that the 4.2l V8 TDI would be a brilliant match for the Panamera. It has more torque than the TurboS (and at lower revs) and gets the A8 to 60 in 5.5 secs yet has a CO2 figure of 199 g/km.

Well - not for a while it isn't as the M5 is currently out of production and a used E60 M5 starts at a mere £18000...
