Porsche M Option Codes
During the 1980's Porsche left their mark of option codes on the car itself. Before this time much of this kind of information was not known without contacting the factory, or chances some paperwork remained with the car since manufacture.
In 1977 (with the introduction of the 911SC) the VIN tag or chassis tag was used on all Porsche models, as a way to have more information avaliable to owners.
This tag is found in different places for each model ( under front trunk lid of 911, and rear trunk floor for 928, 944 cars for example ) The same tag was also placed in the warranty/service booklet that resides with the owner's manual. The information on the tag includes VIN number, vehicle type, engine and transmission type and serial numbers, as well as the optional equipment as it left the factory.
Below is a table of known options, the three digit codes listed are used throughout the late 70s to present day, also known in literature, parts manuals, etc. as M-codes ( i.e. M-030 suspension).
M series options for the model years 1977 for the 911 SC through to 996 in 2005.
From 2004 the 997 Generation 911 changed to a new I coding (although a lot of the numbers are the same)
