Purchasing first 911

I have been thinking of purchasing a 911 for over six months now, waiting patiently for the right car to come along. I have now found a car with the right spec and the right colour, from a reputable independent specialist dealer. The price is about £2000 above what other cars of similar age/mileage would go for privately, but the specialist is guaranteeing that the car is inspected, accident free and in top condition, having repaired anythin

My question is, should I trust the specialist, or should I have another independent inspect the car for me? :?:

Depents who the specialist is... Some of them are better than OPC and some others you would not go even near them..

You never mentioned the warranty, I take it the independent is giving one! :terms: You don't get one privately. These cars second hand are always a risk as you dont know how the first owner (safe in the knowledge that they have a 2 year warranty) has treated it with warm up etc. then sold it after the warranty has expired. :notme: You need as much info and cover available. If in doubt keep looking as their are a lot about and worth the wait.

As above, it depends who the specialist is. If you just mean an indie Porsche dealer then PPI isn't a bad call.

Good luck

If it is £2k above similar cars offered privately, I would be inclined to check out OPCs' stock. You will pay more, but at least you will get the peace of mind of 12 months Porsche warranty, which if the car is purchased outside of the OPC network would cost £1350 AFTER you have waited 90 days.

Of course, some indies do offer a warranty and their cars are sometimes better than those from OPCs, e.g. those offered by Mark Pearce, who will probably be along shortly to promote his stock :)

The car has warranty from the specialist, and it is guaranteed by them to be accident free etc. I intend to export the car shortly after purchase, so the opc warranty is of no particular use or relevance to me, since it does not cover you overseas.

Isn't the OPC warranty pan-European? However the indie warranty will probably be worthless overseas.

I went down the route of using a 'well respected specialist' who promises to sell cars subject to 'meticulous pre-delivery inspection.'

Well, he didn't and it wasn't - certainly not to the degree I'd expected.

Whatever you are thinking of buying, get it PPI'd by an independent assessor and NOT by the garage tied in with the dealer.

The word to remember in all these things is DEALER. They want to maximise their part of the deal by spending as little as possible. You really must have it checked out before you commit by someone who is completely impartial, knows what they are looking at in depth and with an objective view, NOT you as you will probably be starry-eyed by the thought of a 911.

Here endeth the lesson......

it seems that going to an independent specialist for an assessment is the route to take then.
