I am looking for an early 911 (not sure quite what that means) to go alongside my 996GT3RS. Clearly it should be the 73 2.7RS. But that's not going to happen! Came across a lovely looking 74 Carerra with the RS engine. It's a targa, but that's by the by.

Clearly you pays your money and takes your choice. Apart from the obvious body differences (and ignoring that it's a targa), how different are the two cars?

PS if anyone has any thoughts on what a good classic 911 from around that era (up to about 40k) would be, please shout!

One of the big difference are that in 1974 they started introducing galvanised body panels. By 1975/76 most of the shell was galvanised.
