Porsche VIN Decoder Tool

If you know your chassis number you can use this database to display all your factory build options (no need to have access to under bonnet or service book VIL sticker):

FULL Porsche VIN Decoder

* OK, not quite FULL as it isn't official and it does have some holes, in which case it just lists the option code, but not the description or the description may be version dependent and the system doesn't know which version of the option you have.

Eg:

My 3.4 996 has the "X51" PowerKit, the system correctly identifies this option, but lists it as the later 3.6 250KW (345BHP) output, whereas it should be 235KW (320BHP) on the 3.4 engine.

My car has "XAD", the system correctly identifies this, but flags it up as an option description not known (it is GT rear fins). In these cases take the code and google or look up here:

http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options.asp

or

http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=30179

It also only decodes "physical" options, so cosmetics like colours are not listed.

Gets my 993 4S spot on...

Just be careful with your "0"s and "O"s, "1"s and "I"s, "2"s and "Z"s, "5"s and "S"s and "U"s and "V"s etc.

Even the DVLA mess that up.

Read direct from the VIN plate (and if different to your paperwork, get it amended).

If in any doubt call or email your local OPC or Porsche GB.

Apologies, updated the 997 FAQ back in Dec 2012 re: AutoAtlanta pulling the access and forgot I had duplicated the info here and 996 forum.
