Hi,

Just insuring 993 tt seems most companies want Tracker on any car worth more than £30K

Maybe there's a recent thread but any advice on what to get and where to get is welcome...

Thanks

Tracker

Tracker Star

and a few others !

Always had tracker (Monitor) installed by the previous owners on the cars I have bought recent years anyway.

If I bought one without always thought this one looked good though at the time it got its auto-express award it wasn't recognised by the Insurance companies! - Not sure about now though.

on my 996 GT3 I have the RAC TrackStar with the Speed Safe and Euro option.... different on Insurance £0 !

I now have one of these new Cat 5 system's, cost £1200, Insurance saving £100 :x

gggrrrr

The Speed Safe option on the Trackstar is effectively a audio speed trap detector, no wires, in build unit which they update and I just hear "beeps"

Either which way all worth of fitting, for peace of mind.

I had a RAC Trackstar fitted 5 years go when I bought my SSE, cost £700 then plus a quarterly charge of £35 or so. Its been activated twice in the same week when the car was going from the body shop to the garage and when it went to the exhaust fabricator  They called me and told me were the car was and was I aware, so its nice to know it works :)

Just found useful document on Thatcham

RAC Trackstar comes out well Also spoke to local specialist who tells me about new TRACKER version with RFID Driver authentification (like a radio enable credit card associated to the driver so if not with car flags problem) Therefore if car is stolen with the keys and NOT the card aleted.

shame there isn't a member whose involved with Insurance. (nicola?)

I was thinking about updating my remote locking and immobilizer but if i was going to install it i want to know which one would i get the biggest discount for if any

www.uktracking.com
tel 0800 612 9886

they fit nationwide, do both tracker and rac trackstar and are the cheapest

i ve used them for 2 years and the charge for the unit and installation what some OPC's charge just to install

I had tracker horizon fitted to my previous TT , it was the only way to get Insurance...

I did have the OPC fit the Tracker prior to collection which saved time, it did cost the same/similar as other quotes I received.... however it did pay dividends when I had an issue of it false triggering, Tracker blamed the car and the OPC said it was the system..
I said fine you fitted it and are responsible for both sides which stumped them a little...
One new alternator later and all was OK... would I have got the same result without the OPC fitting it ?? not so sure... :?

VTS fitted this time and no false triggers so far, is it working- no idea..!

I fitted a Tracker Response unit only a month ago. This is the unit that requires the transponder to be carried with you. This as mentioned stops people breaking in and stealing your keys (unless they steal the transponder as well! - they'd have to know about it - don't keep it anywhere near the keys!

It works. I left one day without taking it and within around 15 minutes they called me. Pricey but can confirm it works.

Jeff

Very inconsistent regarding what Insurance companies require..

Tesco say any car over £30K Value 'Tracker' mandatory (although not bad price) then I spoke with A-Plan great service and they got me an amazing price or my 9933 tt

The difference for adding Tracker only £30 !

Anyway looks like to add Tracker at about £1000 all up saves £30 year ! Do the numbers.

I wonder if anyone has thought that now all new porsche come with the vehicle tracker system
as most car are stolen with their keys
if the tealeaves brak into your house and steel the keys will they hold you to ransom / knifepoint for the little transponder?

A Manning don't care if your car has a tracker or not.

Sorry, yes they do under certain circumstances. They demanded I have one. Because I can't park my baby in a garage they made me have a tracker.
