Porsche AG press said:
Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is to expand its mid-engine coupé model range with the launch, in November 2007, of the Cayman S 'Porsche Design Edition 1", a limited-edition special series. Porsche has incorporated various design disciplines into this very special mid-engine coupé: the black exterior emphasizes the purist nature of the 295-bhp sports car and, at the same time, is a nod to Porsche Design and the famous Chronograph 1s designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche precisely 35 years previously.

This look, cultivated by Porsche Design, imparts additional luxury and class on the Cayman S: the black leather and Alcantara upholstery harmonizes with refined details such as the instrument dials, the layout of which reflects that of all Porsche Design chronographs. Even the center console, dashboard, and door trims glisten in black, while the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gear lever, the handbrake grip, and the roof lining are clothed in non-slip black Alcantara. The Porsche logo (crest) is embossed on the headrests.

The vehicle's technical features are equally sophisticated: beneath the ten-millimeter-lower body, standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) actively controls the hardness of the shock absorbers and it features a special Sport mode that can be activated at the touch of a button for a really dynamic driving feel. Five-millimeter spacers together with 19-inch turbo wheels give the Cayman S 'Porsche Design Edition 1" a presence that is reinforced yet further by the 235/35 ZR 19 tires at the front axle and the 265/35 ZR 19 tires at the rear.

The Porsche Design Studio, created by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche
35 years ago, has rapidly become a top international name for industrial design, luxury items, and consumer goods. Top-class functionality and esthetics glisten in the new 'Porsche Design Edition 1" collection – in black or black matt, of course.

The Cayman S 'Porsche Design Edition 1" standard equipment thus includes an elegant briefcase containing the Flat Six Chronograph, a pocket knife, a pair of sunglasses, a pen, and a key ring – all in black, even the knife blade, in keeping with the vehicle's styling. The number of Cayman S 'Porsche Design Edition 1" units is to be as exclusive as this series-production luxury package: only 777 are being built, and each will be identifiable from a badge on the lid of the glove box.

The market launch of this black Cayman with exclusive Porsche Design equipment, including briefcase, will begin in Germany in November 2007 and in the United States in January 2008. The base price is 58,600 Euros and, factoring in 19 percent value-added tax, the price in Germany will be 69,942 Euros.

997 TT Wheels :!:

Maybe I am losing it,

But I find that stunning big time, what does everyone else think?

might be the photography, but it has a real bullit feel, if that makes sense

First Cayman I have seen that I would consider buying.

I like that 8)

She is very nice..

I like it with the exception of the lettering in the livery. I think it will date the car very quickly.

i know i'll get shot for saying it but i've always liked the cayman, this one however is in a league above the standard car... looks menacing. I like

I think that does look very good.......

I like the Cayman but do not like the lettering on that one. It reminds me of an Xmas pressie with ribbon on it.

If Porsche came out with a 350+ BHP Cayman I would be tempted. And yes I have seen the RUF one and yes I am tempted 8)

The special edition above is pure marketing hype.
It will probably fetch 200 quid more than a standard well equipped car in 3 years time.
The Ruf alternative is what Porsche should have targeted in order to give the car a real chance as a track oriented machine - starting a new segment for the Caymen. Oh - and they should loose the stupid name at the same time and call it the CRS.
Unforunately there will be more of this corporate masturbation as this is Cayman S 'Porsche Design Edition 1" .

Nice - except for the graphics.

If they are scared of alienating GT / RS 911 owners/buyers, why not make a Cayman Club Sport?

Cayman CS - has a certain ring, dont you think ?

I think they are more worried that a Cayman GT3 would be quicker than a 911GT3 and cost £20K less!

I can definitely see the appeal of a Cayman GT3... (where do I sign?) BUT there was a GT3-engined Cayman at this year's 'Ring24hrs, and it was thoroughly beaten by the Manthey GT3s!

Sigh <doesnoonereadmyposts>

I'm not saying they should build a GT3 Cayman, but i propose a GT3 light Cayman.

and call it a Cayman CS

Harder than a cooking Cayman, but not as hard as a GT3.

See?

everyones happy

8)

Edited to add - apparantly Quaife do a LSD for the Cayman for c£750.....

I could see some future in Warren's Cayman CS idea-

Stripped out interior, lots of alcantara
GT3 bucket seats
Roll cage
LSD
Standard engine
PSM/Sport Chrono
White with red wheels

Going back to the original car, I am assuming there is an edition sport 2 on the way. Special editions like this smack of desperation to me a bit... Cayman a bit of a slow seller? They're own fault for pricing it wrong.
