Hi

Does anyone have any experience of dealing with this garage - I think it is also known as La Rose. There is a 993 Targa I was interested in there.

Thanks

Jon

Paul Devyea shares the premises with La Rosa but I don't think they are legally connected. He obviously uses them for his preparation and maintenance work.

Pauls unusual in the way he warrants his cars. Things may have changed since I last went but he "warrants" them himself for a period of three months. I've met another dealer who takes the same approach but for a longer period, so I PD is not unique. It depends how much faifth one has in that sort of undertaking.

I've never heard of anything untoward about LaRosa and have seen their name appear on many service books. They are often referred to as a respected independent garage.

i bought a 911 from him recently and looked at the targa you're thinking of - it's a very nice one if you're into tips - i opted for a similar manual one.

paul is a nice guy and has a garage (that he shares with la rose) full of very nice cars. if you know what you're doing you can find a great car there. that said he's far more interested in selling cars than in you as a customer - i wouldn't buy from him again as a 'newbie'. i didn't even get to test drive mine! it's also turned up several not-so-minor faults that would have been obvious to a porsche expert - although they were missed by a Peter Morgan inspection.

Paul Devyea! Anyone who would buy a car from this man would need their head examined.

Re: Paul Devyea

Hmm.. Nice first post..

Welcome by the way !

I have to say that I was surprised at the reception I received down there, hence the question. Moreover, a car I am considering buying was last purchased from his garage, so I hoped to glean some info on the standard of cars sold there.

I am always concerned when I see cars being flipped after only 6 months of ownership, especially when the car concerned is as considered a purchase as a 993. Situations change of course, but it does raise questions. Hence I am concerned that this garage may have sold a dog. I know the owner sounded dubious about the aftercare he received from La Rose when I asked him.

As for the lack of test drive - I concur - how anyone can be expected to part with serious money for a 10+ year old car without a test drive is lunacy. Paul said only serious buyers were granted test drives, but offered no reply to my query as to how I would prove myself to be a serious buyer. Given that I showed up in my friend's mint 993 and showed a genuine interest in Porsches of all generations, I thought that might at least qualify me for a 5 minute spin around the block.

Perhaps I should have shown up with a briefcase of used banknotes.

By way of balancing this thread a bit, my experience with Paul Devyea has been wholly positive, I bought a 964 C4 from him this summer, my second 964 so I knew a bit about them already and I was particularly reassured that Paul is plugged into a mini network of classic 911 dealers and engineers around London (he now partners with Cliff Lowe at Project Nine for servicing) who have all been working together for years.I actually bought my car without seeing it (only online), let alone driving it. Now that Dan at Oakfields has stopped selling 964s (Paul knows him too), this is the only garage in my neck of the woods (South East) I'd buy a classic 911 from. He's in the same circle of 911 trust as people like 911 Virgin and Paul Stephens in my view.

I bought my last car from Paul Devyea, great customer service and didn't have a single problem with that car in two years. Very helpful guy.

I got a test drive too.

MODERATOR NOTE: THREAD RESURRECTED AFTER 8 YEARS DORMANT

If ever anybody is considering buying a Porsche from a dealer this man is the one.
he has sold me 3 Porsche to date and looking for my next one, never a lemon, straight up and the cars have been nothing but spectacular.
Every car I have had I have sold back to him.
His knowledge and understanding of our individual needs is what gets me..Thanks Paul

I've bought two cars from Paul

My first two Porsches, 924S and 944S2

Both exactly as described, and a painless exercise

I would happily buy from him again if he had the car I wanted

Do find it odd that two newbies who have not previously contributed to this forum, chime in extolling the virtues of the aforementioned dealer. A cynic might say they are connected! That in itself would be enough to put me off!

:bandit:

Just what I was thinking - I think anyone whose first post is to provide positive feedback for a business should be taken with a huge pinch of salt :floor:

We have bought two Porsche's off Paul and his son in the last eighteen months.

He's as been in the game a very long time, he is very straight talking and tells you warts and all, operates from a small industrial unit. The cars we bought he had known for over a decade selling the one three times and the other twice. He doesn't do test pilots and glossy brochures with filter coffee on tap.

In fact I think I made a cup of tea when I was last there.

However if your serious he will go the extra mile, always willing to give advice.

I would not hesitate to buy a car from him or use him for a PPI if he would do one.
With regard to the reviews, I have no idea if they are genuine or not, but the little I know of Paul it wouldn't have come from him, I doubt for one second he could be bothered.

Two :?: I can only see one.

For the record I've bought one and sold two 911s through Paul Devyea and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. I can understand why some people don't get on with him as he is a straight talker.

NB: He's based in Kent (nr Sevenoaks) now and has been for several years.
