I know there will be millions of simillar posts but here goes. I'm starting to look around for my first Porsche and love the 911, 964 although having read up on it, it does seem to be the model that some tell you to steer clear of!
First question.... Can anyone reccommend a PPI company in Yorkshire? and would you still have a PPI done if buying from a reputable dealer?
I have seen a very nice looking 964 in Specialist cars of Malton if a little expensive. It has only 58K on the clock and fuul OPSH.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance! :)

now't wrong with the 964 these days........most of their niggles would have been solved by now,and at the moment they do seem to be good value(lower prices than the 993 and some 3.2 Carrera's)

Any recommendations for a good PPI service in Yorkshire?
Is it normally this slow in the forum? :)

there's a fair contingent away to Le Mans so they'll be heading homeward these next few days

PPI you can try peter morgan as he's meant to be quite the Porsche expert when it comes to PPI's,possibly pricier than others but he knows his onions..........don't whatever you do use the AA/RAC they won't know all the 911's foibles

Malton have a very good reputation from what I've heard. So personally I would think that they are one of the specialists that you can trust without having a PPI done. They know so much about Porsches that they essentially do the PPI themselves and presumably put right what needs doing. However, you have to accept that you are paying a premium compared to other places. I've never seen a 'cheap' car on their books. If you buy private or somewhere else then it would be advisable to get a PPI.

Before I bought mine I purchased Peter Morgan's buying guide and did lots of web surfing. This website is essential reading:

911UK might seem quiet but that's mostly because there are only a few of us 964 owners on here. The real fun of it is to join in with all the other sections on this board. Particularly the meets and trackday sections :D .

The noisiest 964 forum is on Rennlist. This is because there are a lot of USA 964 owner on there (it's actually a USA based forum but they let us join in  ). Rennlist is also essential once you get a 964 because you will find answers very quickly there on how to do things to/with your car.

Just took a look at thier stock, not sure which car you were interested in, but I would say they are at the top end of the price band.

I would imagine you could pick up a similar car for less OR a later model for the same price. Especially through a private sale (following a PPI of course)

Just a thought!!

Thanks for your input. No doubt once i get my 964 wherever that may be from i will be attending the meets etc :)

B.T.W I was looking at the 964 C4

A safer car for every day use. The 4WD system is pretty reliable so therefore the running costs are no more than the C2. Personally I bought a C2 because of the more tactile steering feedback you get. More fun on track days :D .

I know this is probably not the most helpful reply but...... I've just bought my first Porsche - a 964 C2 Cabriolet.

The reasons - I like the shape (last of the real 911's apart from the 993), budget of course, and if you look around enough I believe there are some fine examples out there. I looked at a number and there is some right cr!p out there. Drive one and the decision will be made (subconsciously of course!).

I bought one of those guides to buying a 964 and it helped highlight some o the problem areas with this model. Time will tell whether I made the right decision, but at the moment I'm on top of the world!

Good luck!

I've heard v good things about Specialist Cars... but they do seem right at the top end price wise.

Probably wouldn't bother with PPI if it was from them, but on the other hand, I dare say they'd find something to pay back the cost of the PPI. Try Peter Morgan or our own Phil Raby, either of whom might do a PPI if you wish, or at least recommend someone up north.

Re the forum, it does seem to have gone a little quieter recently, maybe Le Mans etc. Everyone's living life in reality rather than virtually! Or maybe now everyone's got a GT3 they've run out of things to talk about.
