Based on the depreciation figures of a standard spec 996 turbo ( I don't know what they cost new) what do you think a 2007 standard spec 997 turbo would be worth in 4/5 years time at the end of the 997 production run.

just above the 996 level but in the same range, in fairness

Yep - £45K to £60K depending on miles and spec.

would be interesting to see where 993 TT and 996 TT prices end up.....

my bets are with the 993

Would be quite interesting actually. My estimates in 4 - 5 years would be-

997 turbo £45k - £65k

996 turbo £35 - £45k

993 TT £30k - £35k

997 s £30k - £35k

Thanks all and as I thought will probably follow the 996 prices, could be interesting decission time then if my 964RS keeps creeping up in price.

The current price levels of a 996 turbo and a 993 turbo make interesting reading. Looking around you can find a very good condition 993 turbo for circa £55k, the same sort of level of money you could expect to pay for a average 2003 996 turbo.

Those of you that don't know, I am currently waiting for a 997tt, due soon, not soon enough, but looking at this very same thing I gave it some thought as to forgetting a new car and going for a very good 993tt spending upto say 57-58k max. The reasoning behind was simple, do I want to buy a new car that will loose circa 40% in say 4 years or do I go for a car that already lost the best part of what it is going to loose and may be to some extent appreciate in value.

That depends on whether the depreciation is a factor for you. If losing 40% over 3-4 years is acceptable, then I'd stick with the 997 order. If this thread is making you think twice (ie depreciation is likely to be something you cannot ignore), then imo you couldn't go wrong with a 993 TT especially if it's the S run out model (that is if you are lucky enough to find one).
