Busted Shock Absorber

Heya,

I was due to pick up my 04 GT3 tomorrow, only the dealer has told me that when reversing it out of the showroom, there was a nasty sound it appears the shock absorber is broke. Its now been taken to the Porsche garage for a new part, and delayed my pick up :(
Its only done 12,000 miles, is this normal?

I know this is my second paranoid post in as many days - I'll be much more calm once I have actually driven it!

Thanks

sounds like they more than just reverse it out, if you know what I mean !

not for a 12k car, normally get up to 30k from the shocks although the rears are known for thier short life

Nice, thanks for the quick reply.

Annoying though - I hope I can pick it up soon. I saw a orange and black RS today by Green Park and really wanted mine!

Adam,
Which dealer is this? As with any GT3, get it inspected by a specialist (JZ Machtech or Parr), not just the OPC. Do you have a link to the car in question?

Also re the shocks, I've had a brand new shock fail after just 1000 miles before, although this was clearly a manufacturing fault and was replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the advice - what's the deal with getting it inspected by a specialist? Do you pay them to come to the garage and have a look? How much would that cost?

The car is still on the site at:

Thanks

Should shocks be replaced as a pair?

Normally the car is brought to the specialist who will inspect and make a list of all the bits that need to be fixed. Armed with this you can haggle a bit with the dealer if you still want to buy the car. JZM and Parr do these PPIs on a regular basis and they will know what to look for on a car like the GT3.

Worth doing on a specialist car like this.

Don't want to dissuade you from the Roman's car if your heart is set on it, but have you looked around the market for a GT3? There are quite a few Mk2 GT3s in the market for not insignificant less money.

I certainly would if the shocks have done significant mileage.

I agree, this car has been in stock for months. I believe Daz looked/enquired about this car and may have a better view on condition/history etc. Given the poverty spec of this car and the current market IMHO the price should be £50k - £52K

Really? That's interesting - I didn't realise it was a poverty spec. What standard features am I missing?

I've been looking on Top Marques for a while and it seemed a fairly price considering the milage.

Really appriciate the feedback guys, I'm totally new to this market and don't have a deep enough understanding to know if I was paying over the odds or not.

Thanks, look forward to any more pointers! How can I contact Daz?
