We bought some time ago a 1969 911T and are preparing it to drive it to China.

If you know things we shouldn't forget, let us know.

Brilliant web site - well done Very Happy

Looks like you've thought of everything - but will the Iranians and Chinese let you in?

hi fellas,

i'm the second nutter who is in on this adventure Wink

border crossing and detailed itinerary is something to be looked into sometime next year. we'll get there for sure...be it on a boat or on a truck if all else fails :D

tomorrow, we will have a visit from our painter, and hopefully he will have some time in the next weeks to repaint our car (original bahama yellow color), so we go for a drive at last!

i will try to put the important updates in here as we go along restoring this car :)

cheers,
jan

You lucky lucky lucky buggers! I wish I was going on a trip like that! I speak 6 languages fluently - Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Japanese ( thus, I can read chinese characters) and English of course! I have travelled in several of the countries you are travelling in!!!! If one of you gets sick - call my cell!

My advice, keep plenty of cash, water and puncture repair kits, as many spares as possible!!!! Also, a decent tow rope and some boards to get you out of any ditches you get stuck in!

By the way, not sure if you guys have travelled in China but the roads are much better than India and some of the other countries you are travelling in!

Lastly, suggest that you keep a few cans of petrol! Will have a think over night and think of some other essentials!

Wow!!! That is really one hell of an adventure, what a wonderful trip it will be!

This is the sort of things that I always wish I could do but always knew that I'll never have the ability, resources and contacts to even dream of doing! I've donated 1000 Euro to help with the project as it's a 911 you're using.

BTW, it would be great if you could get the 911uk.com and Total 911 magazine involved, and may be we can plan a drive out to do part of the Europe leg of the trip to wave you goodbye!

Wish you guys all the luck and please keep us informed.

I would be glad to team up with 911uk.com and try to make a nice article for the magazine. I will have more info in the coming weeks. Smile

Oh, and i see it before me: big dpart on the big square in Brussels with a few hundred porsches, one long stretch of beautiful sports cars following the two nutters to for example the nurburgring Wink
where a 3-day long barbeque starts off our adventure Very Happy

I would love to do it in my new RS! I've even got a new private plate for it! Just need the blimin builders to get their arse in gear before I can go ahead!

Just imagine, film crews form Top Gear and national news seeing a row of 911s heading towards Brussels waving 911uk flags and stickers, becoming an international news across Europe! This can be real BIG!!

The only thing we need to remember is driving on the right side (or was it the left side) of the road. ;-)

When we leave (normally end of 2008) we're tending to do something... so keep posting those great idea's

Top gear coverage would be awesome Wink

remember jeremy clarckson wrecking a 73 911? that was hurtfull to see...

I think we could fill up a whole chunnel train with porsches Wink

We definately have the time to make this pretty big, i'm all for it for sure! There's a guy i know who organizes a rally with 50 citroen 2cv's from brussels to benin, it's a great succes, so i don't see why our little trip couldn't become something more than 'just' a trip with two buddies.

The car is at the painter's since a few days, and it starts to show some progress. They have welded in some pieces of metal at the sides, where the battery acid ate into the body and suspension pan. The middle part of the front suspension beam was also reinforced. Next up is the welding of the upper plate, and protect it all from new rust.

They have sanded off all of the rust-protector we put on (it's a good thing we did this anyway, because the car was barenaked for 3 months...), and started to do some prepping: some masking has been done, and the dents are being filled out, and they are starting to paint it with a filler-primer. The bottom corners just under the front windshiled area have gotten a layer of tin, to make it fit well with the two front wings.

pics can be found on our website

cheers, jan & erwin

Last weekend we had a stand on the Collection Car exposition in Flanders Expo in Ghent.

We had a really good time with our hosts Tommy and Pascal who were kind enough to give us a spot on their stand! Thanks guys. We met a lot of people (it was very busy), and there was quite some interest in our adventure. Some good friends of us dropped by too. The stand was very nice, with checkered 'racing flag' floor mats, and some hay for a bit of an offroad look :-)

Sunday night the expo finished and we were knackered, but we still had to bring the car back home. So i went on a ride with the towtruck, and it's superfriendly driver, and cruised with the naked car on the back all the way through the medieval center of Ghent, with a lot of looks from everyone. Smile In the meanwhile, Erwin was taking the green 914 back to the garage, and needless to say he had a blast too!

Until the next expo!
cheers, Jan & Erwin

Our car is almost finished!

We gotta mount the decoration strips underneath the doors, and do some little things to get it 100% done.

It's already rolling thus, and we went out for our first ride in 7 months, and it was absolutely fantastic. Anybody know the beavis and butthead-laugh? Well, that was the sound we made when driving this car! Smile It pulls very good, it feels very responsive, it's like this car is on rails. Amazing experience! :-)

no problemo regarding the pictures Smile gonna keep it a little bit down compared to the site, so we don't overload the thread, allright? Smile
