Would anyone be willing to follow the link below and let me have first impressions?

I have completed an Autocheck and there are no finance/damage/mileage issues, so that seems clean. Mileage quite high but should that put me off ?

As you'll see from my other postings on the forum, this is pretty much the car I have wanted since I was 19 ... a long while back now! So I don't want to diappoint myself by buying a dog!

Thanks very much.

Looks nice and tidy. Not a bad price either but I'd save a bit on the side for a possible top end rebuild in the not too far distant future considering the millage. Not sure if the wheels suit the car, might want to ask what happened to the original wheels. Have it PPI and if all the major bits are ok then it looks good for the price. You do need to ask yourself though, why is it so cheap, apart from the millage?

I had a 3.2 like that in guards red.
My first impression is

Non origional mirrors (why change?)
Non origional wheels (mine were immaculate on a car with 130k miles)
high mileage
doesnt look sparkling and loved although the interior is ok.

There are much better looked after cars than this one.

From the photos I would want to see a very extensive service history.

Could be ready for some oil pipes and lower engine transfer tubes. Watch out for rusted exhausts and non functional heater components.

Everything should work - sunroof, heater and blowers on both sides, headlight up down adjuster. Oil changes should have been done at least to the handbook.

Tyre treads should be at least 3mm or you will be changing the rears quite quickly.

Start up smoke is normal but the engine should not smoke at all when hot after a run.

Any engine rattles are a warning sign - walk away.

Agree with Stevo. Can't always tell from pictures, but it does look a little rough in some of those shots.

agree with Stevo and mick re top end rebuild,

It would have to be around the £9.5k mark to tempt me, prefer the original wheels

Thanks everyone for all your help - looks like a no then. I'd rather wait for a better example as I'm not in a desperate hurry.

As a newcomer, are such requests for help/advice an acceptable use of this part of the forum? All I know is I have found your input very valuable but wouldn't want to end up abusing goodwill etc.

Cheers

Glenn, advice like these are what the forum's for, but just be aware that any advice is based on our own personal experience or from what we've read elsewhere, so don't take it as gospal, rather just food for thoughts.

Always more than happy to add our pennyworth, but as said above we're not experts!

Hopefully, between us we can help you avoid something obvious. However, when it comes to parting with ££££, I'd strongly recommend getting an expert to look over it properly via a Pre Purchase Inspection. They usually cost round £250-£300, and worth every penny.

I wouldn't dismiss this car out of hand- its a reasonable price, it could do with a good clean but so long as the maintenance has been good.... the original mirrors are included so you could flog the cup mirrors. The old Fuchs wheels may be available too. If not, Porscheshop will sell you a reconditioned set for not a huge amount, then you could sell the cup wheels! Worth a look?

Aaaah so that solves another question I was afraid to ask i.e. " I wonder what PPI stands for?" ... can you tell this is all pretty new to me yet ??

So, to get an inspection is it a case of getting a specialist garage to visit the car with you to view it, or do you get the owner to take it to the garage so they can give it the full-monty? How do owners feel about that ... bit put out I would think ?

As your all in such generous moods - what about this one? (Link below)It looks much better but my initial query is on a Y plate and only £12k+ ?? NEWSFLASH just spoken to the guy who owns it tells me it had a bare metal repsray ... good bad or what?

Thanks all

Needs to be a good one at that price for a LHD 964. Depends on what the respray is for, ?repair ?cosmetic ?stone chips, and who did it. If it's been done by a Porsche approved body shop then it'll come with a warrentee but it needs to be inspected yrly to keep it going.

Get a PPI from a Porsche specialist or OPC, find one near the seller so he can drive it there, request a full written report before you have it done. If the seller's not keen on a PPI then walk away! You don't need to do a PPI for every car you look at, just do it before you decide to buy it. Best to agree with the seller before hand that you'll buy it if the PPI is mainly ok, but room for negotiation if any major problem turns up on the PPI.

Thanks for that Butzi - I think the link may not have taken you to the right car .. sorry my fault. Third car down Turbo body Y reg? Your advice still gratefully received re the PPI etc. The reason for the respray would also be an issue ... and one I had not fully thought through so cheers.

That will be old Y reg of course. i.e. 1983. Which I guess would make it an SC or early 3.2 Carrera.

That would make it quite expensive for age. Though I suppose the wide hips does add value.

If it is Turbo body, then it must be a Supersport... I don't know when they were introduced.

I had a PPI done on mine as follows- the car was some distance away, so I agreed with the vendor that he would take it off the market for a week or so whilst the PPI was done. The PPI guy visited the bloke's house and did the PPI which he sent to me. As the PPI gave me a candid view of all aspects of the car's condition (rather than via the vendors perhaps rose-tinted glasses, although to be fair his descriptions and answers to my q's were spot on).

I then made the vendor an offer taking into account issues in the PPI. We agreed a price subject to me viewing the car. I trotted down to Kent with a banker's draft and the rest is history!

Must have been introduced in 83, as previous 911 was the SC. I'm pretty sure they didn't do a turbo body SC (apart from the 911 turbo obv).

THere are some turbo body SCs around, quite a few actually, but they are not factory fit.

RHD Supersports are normally more expensive than that, but the advert doesn't give any details.

You will only find out by seeing that one.

I wouldn't discount the piston heads one either, doesn't look to bad to me, the black rubber work is a bit faded, but a bit of effort can soon bring it back to looking good.

Needs to be seen in the flesh.
