Hi All

Still keeping a look out for a 993 & will probably take the plunge sometime in the next 6/9 months (pending $$ remaining from property purchse / when the right one comes up / convincing missus etc). Friend has just had a midnight blue C2 and I'm now running out of reason not to.....

However, came across this whilst looking - one of the few 964's that could tempt me away from a 993. Looking for a weekend car (will not get used at all in the week), fun to drive and (reasonably) low depreciation. Seems a decent price compared to some of the specialist dealers.

The white one near the bottom of the first page.

Appreciate any opinions........

BTW - Grest site, information & banter.

Cheers

Looks great, good price, good if you want to track it but on the road it might not be as tractable as a road car. If you want it get it quick, otherwise Daz will get it there!

Welcome BTW! :D

Thx Mick

Yep Crossed my mind !

Just been reading the SY 993 thread. This looks boxfresh by comparison - unless all 24K were track miles ! I think white compliments the black interior really well.

There is / was a LHD at Gmund for c.4K GBP more and a RHD at GTclassics for 40K GBP and both have more miles.

Interested to know how compliant they are on the road.

Wouldn't worried about track miles, in a lot of cases track cars that are looked after are better than ones that had been sitting in traffic jams!

Depending on what the last owner's done to the suspension. If it's any stiffer than standard RS then it might be a bit difficult to drive fast on road. Are you likely to track the car?

Looked very hard at this car and decided against it having talked to the servicing dealers.

Car has been tracked for most of the miles by a major track day enthusiast.

No purist will touch it, it is only worth tops £20k, and requires paint and an engine rebuild near future.

Has had many bumps, however no history, take my advice stay away unless you have another £15k to spend miniumum.

This car has been on sale with one dealer or another for at least 6 months, and nobody will touch it.

Is that the same one as the one you were looking at? In which case Yanto there has been a fair bit of discussions in earlier threads about it.

To be honest, it would likely get far more road use that track use. Currently dont track a car (though was thinking if I were to go this way, it may entice me....).

If it really is a completely different animal to standard car (have obviously read the mags etc but no substitute for experience) then I guess it may be wrong entry to 911 ownership.

I was thinking more along the lines that it wont be a commuter, journeys would rarely exceed 100 miles of "spirited" driving at a time and therfore I'm happy to forgoe luxuries. Am thinking along Caterham / Westfield lines in terms of use. Impractical but good fun.

Am I way off the mark on this ?

RS's seem to be a relatively popular model and whilst low depreciation is not a driver behind the decision, it is a factor come re-sale (btw the 993 RS is up there with the best of them, though sadly beyond reach for me at the moment)- good luck in your quest !!

Yanto, the GT's & RS's are very different animals to the normal 911's. However this shouldn't preclude one as an entry point. I went straight in with a GT3. You do need to understand what you are getting into however. You cannot jump into a GT or RS & expect to drive it quickly. You will scare the living daylights out of youself learning the car. The best place to learn it is on a track. Once you get used to them you will just be grinning like a little kid every time you drive it. :D

As Rob said, an RS is perfectly ok for normal road use. But to extract and explore the greatness and potentila of the car you need to find the limit on a track. Being able to "ride" your car at the limit of adhesion is a great feeling too! Must try a track day sometime!

Perfectly ok for the road if you wear ear defenders....

After 3000kms, in the space of 3 weeks in one, I still have a ringing in my ears......

Thanks to all for advice/opinions - On reflection, plan A probably sounds the best initially. Will be back when I've done it !
