Hi guys need to pick your brains

What year did 911's start having remote central locking? My 964 doesn't but i'd like it. Is there an easy/cheap aftermarket thing which does the job?

Also my car has aircon but it doesn't work. I've been in 964s with working aircon so I know I can't expect the same performance from it as a modern car but does it only need re-gasing? You can hear the motor or whatever kick in when you turn it on.

Cheers

Will

My 1991 964 had central locking but not remote central locking. However, when i took the car to get a cat 1 alarm fitted the guy said that I should have had a remote with it, but I didnt! Think the only way to get it is to take it to a audio/alarm fitters and ask them if you can just get the remote central locking feature installed

Re the aircon, chances are it does need a re-gas, but there are plenty of other things it could need to, like new seals, temp sensor unit, condenser. Take it to a good indie or to an aicon specialist that knows 911s.

My LHD 89 (late F Reg) 964 has Central Locking and Aircon, you may need the Aircon Belt looking at as well as regassing. From what I can gather they were still pretty naff when they came out of the factory.

I am just about to install a Cat 1 alarm on my 89 C4. It will include remote control of the central locking and total closure of the windows and roof too :)

My aircon is the same, although my compressor doesn't kick in which is usually the sign the pressure has dropped and it needs a re-gas.

Hi Will

I went the same route as Jay some years ago with my 91 964 Cab - I went the full monty, with remote, roof and window, roof down, lock and alarm, immobiliser etc. It was a Laserline system which was excellent, didnt go off for no reason etc etc. It was about £450 quid all in but that was a number of years ago.

Someone like hendoncarstereo.co.uk are offering the laserline 996 v2 Thatcham cat 1 with installation for £350.00 - suggest you find a local car stereo/alarm specialist unless you have a go yourself

Laserlines product list is here

Will,

I had the Cobra cat 1 alarm/immobiliser fitted a couple of weeks ago, was around £350. That has the remote central locking feature fitted as standard. Uplands audio/alarm specialists.

Just got off the phone with the local car audio/security place

£450 all in for a Clifford concept 650 total closure Cat 1 alarm with remote central locking

They will also be doing a variety of other jobs for me suchas fitting a new stereo and hard wiring my road angel into a discreet spot all at quite reasonable prices.

Anyone any experience of this system? or any comments on value/

Cheers

Will

Personally I would not go for Clifford. Having had a few over the years they are not the most reliable systems, but the newer ones may be better??I bought a Toad Ai606 for £120 and will fit it myself, so I know its all done properly. :)
