my dear Targa is 10 years old next week ! and It seems to have picked up some rust bits (about an inch long) around the lower part of the windscreen pillar....

although in fairness it was there when I bought the car back in '04
well you known the deal, it's one of theose things that you will eventually get around to.. eventually ! so back in late '05 I finally realised that the final countdown was on it's way, so got in touch with my local OPC.....

and today I've just heard that they Porsche UK have finally approved the repair with just days to go before the 10 years were up..... yippie ! as in that part the repair costs are pricey! so goes to Solus in two week......RESULT !

now it was a bit touch and go about getting the approval so I REALLY had to go to work on my local OPC... my car has a FSH, but OPC service for 8 years and only 9 years of OPC guarantee stamps at the back (is that what you call 'em ?) although the 7th year was blank (before I owned the car). It turned out that it was these guarantee stamps at the back that were the important ones...... which is where it was looking a bit touch and go !

but I was saved by the fact that since I bought the car in Jul' 04 performing a full 24k service then I've had the car serviced every 6,000 miles,

i.e. after 6000miles I did the 12k service and then after another 6000 miles I got a 24k service done, then after another 6000 miles back to a 12k service and so on..so effectively I've halfed the service routine

I bit excessive some might think, but with my car at 106k miles and I've been doing 9k to 13k miles in a year, so an oil change every 6k (which means every 4 to 8 months) is IMHO is a good thing and I'm using the good stuff (Silkone Pro 5W-40) and then there are the annual brake fluid changes... well I am expecting my car to last past 150k miles and beyond 200k without a hint of a new engine, just like they are supposed to......

regards

Nice one! :)

BTW no corrosion guarantee stamps whatsoever in my service book
...and now I have a little rust bubbling in that lower windscreen corner area too....

...How much is 'HUGE'?

EJ..

essential mine in right in the lower corner, so at a major joint of the windscreen, so from what I can tell, although I know little about paint/body work but to get at the rust to treat it they need to strip back at that piece and surrounding elements to ensure it is rust free... also I having a new windscreen fitted as I already have a few marks and chips and it is starting to delaminate where the rust section is....

I'm sure if it's just started then you could get a specific treatment for that section at a lower cost that will keep the car fine for years to come ?

EJ, I had my car looked at by a bodywork specialist- there is some corrosion going on on the windscreen pillar, but he said it was not a big deal at all to fix.

Nice to get it done "on the house" though...

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday Sundeep's Targa...

Happy Birthday to you!

Mine turned ten in January. Do you think they'll develop stroppy teenage tendencies soon?
