squeak/squeal from engine

Hi there,

Just hijacked another forum query but feel it needs a proper airing!

I have a noise in my engine - has started recently on&off and now more constant - is present when I first start the engine and then returns when the noise of the engine slows at idle (I assume is there all the time just cannot hear it when driving).

The sound is a squeal/squeak and is rhythmic like what a belt would make but is what I would call just audible - not loud like a loose belt.

Could it be the fan belt roller squeaking due to no ube?

Can anyone say if the 1st/2nd distibrutor belt would make a noise if faulty? Surely not?

If not, the other belts? Or I am I looking in the wrong place? The noise is not localised when I lift the hood up to pin point!

Thanks

Dan

Sounds like a belt to me... I'd take it in to a specialist for a quick look, could be as simple as a squirt of WD40, but may be a sign of a belt about to go...
