I drove a collegues car about 2 years ago - when i got out i thought id never walk properly again !

The list of things i couldnt do for the first 30 mins drive took longer to explain than my eventual drive - dont go into second gear..................

the actual drive, hmm - engine far too quite, sounded like it was electric, offset pedals to the extreme, gas pedal was behind the centre console, no head room, i had to crank the seat right back and steering wheel tilts away from you so much that wrist started to hurt almost instantly. It went ok, but far too much effort expended for the result.

My opinion - the reason why all the ferraris you see for sale have low mileage was explained to me in one 45 minute drive - No one want to drive them!!!

Plus - in red they are just a bit too obvious for me - my collegues car was grey and looked ok.

Dont mention Tom Selleck..........

if youve not been to lemans

remember mad friday, down on Arnage corner where the 2 guys stop the traffic and do the 3 2 1 spin the wheels and roar off up the road,

being 43 when i was a teenager you allways wanted one

one of the disappointments in life, was seeing someone do this in a 328,

TVR's 355's sound like there a brass band in the boot,

but alas the 328 sounded rather limp and of cousre they're only about 250/260 BHP

and of course about £1800 to cahne the cambelt every 18 months ( sorry i know thats a bit tonque in cheek)

don't worry 993 is very much here to stay, with the amount of money I've spend on it, I'm in it for the long term...

just thinking about a 2nd car extra fun car for some limited miles which is a bit more of a hand full to drive but in a more classic and stylish manner......

thought about an SC or a 3.2 but than again I already have a legendary 911, so another Porsche won't really work...

but considering something different, although those repeats on Magnum have got me pondering...

just wondering, as I've always through the 328 looked like one of the most beautiful cars in the world...ever (?)

The 328 had always been one of my dream cars as a little boy, can't even remmember how many plastic models of the car I'd built! Red and cream leather of course. Alsways wanted one untill I drove it, and made the mistake of trying it after I drove a 993. It was the biggest disappointment in my life, felt like my whole childhood was a lie!

Didn't mind the awful driving position, actually made it more special. The sound was like my mum's Singer sewing machine, the performance was the biggest disappointment. Handling was ok but after driving a 993, it's not good enough to win me over. Well now all the posters are down, plastic models in the bin and I'm driving a 993.

Sundeep - if your looking for a second "fun" car, then what about an older 911, thats more track prepared - a rs clone or 3.0 rsr clone - i know of a few such cars for sale here that would be cheaper than a magnum special and be much more fun

I owned a 1988 (non ABS) 328 GTS for four years.

What a car! I loved it- I sold it to buy a F355 which never really hit the spot in the same way despite its monstrous performance.

I had a sports exhaust on mine- I can only imagine that the above cars were running OE exhausts as the sound was a symphony- only Ferraris really howl like that. And there was a great crackle and pop on the over-run, all overlaid with the whistle of all the gears and cams etc.

The gearbox was quite challenging, especially when cold. But when warmed up, it was very tactile and quick to shift.

Overall, it was a car you had to learn rather than leap into and scoot off. Handling was great, but quite hostile around the limit. A very involving car to drive.

The shape is just stunning. The GTB is arguably prettier.

The running costs were not outrageous. The 24 month belts service was around £1200 at a specialist, and typically it cost well under £1k per year. Mine never skipped a beat in my four year stewardship, and it had done over 50k miles when I sold it.

Parts costs on the other hand border on the comic. You don't know whether to laugh out loud or cry so you do both.

Overall, I'd say definitely give one a go- now is a great time to buy.

Have a look at the UK section of
www.ferrarichat.com
and ask the question there.

Robert.

Or an early 911 - perhaps a 911T or 911S - something nice and classic

I'm still waiting for my garage or front drive to suddenly become bigger so I can fit a 356 Speedster on it.
