HELP 993 not well

Hi All,

some advise please,

Started my 993 Carrera 4 up this morning and she ran a bit lumpy... drove her 2-3 miles and got it got a little better, parked up and when I came back she will not start ? :(

Now normally when I first turn her on I can hear the fuel pump, but it is making no noise... Could this be the reply ?

If so where do I find it ?(under the bonnet, under the dash?) so I can change it.

Please help, she is all alone, if its is not that I will call the AA.

Sorry Dan,

Can't think of anything offhand, but not necessarily a fuel pump prob... I'd speak to the Knights of the Road and if they can't think of anything obvious, have it recovered to your favoured specialist if I were you.

I have phoned Parr in Crawley, (my local Specialist) and they have said it could well be the reply, there trying to locate on for me, I will then pick it up and they are going to send someone with me to fit it !! If not I will have to have it recovered !

All fingers crossed, they have one in stock !!

Good luck Dan - i think all the relays on a 993 are under the luggage compartment lid?

All fuses/relays are under the luggage compartment lid as Warren says, drivers side at the rear. Top of the fuse box contains map of what goes where, from memory I think the DME relay is number R14 or R41? These tend to wear out over time, I fitted a new one when I got my car with 50K on the clock and have kept the original as a spare. Looked at a high mileage 993TT a while ago (just under 100K) that had a recent bill for recovery due to burnt out relay - ended costing previous owner close to £200 for recovery to OPC and fitting new relay! Good luck.

Sorry for the delay,

But she is home safe and sound, I collected the new relay was told which one to change and she is back !!!

And it may just be in my head, but she seem to run better !

the chap at Parr told me if this happens to me again or to anyone I know, to take the relay out, tap in on the floor (lightly) and it should then work at least to start the vehicle..

For all the help and advise from Parr, they even called me back to check I had sorted it out, I am thinking of having her serviced there. Been quoted £689 inc vat and all parts for a 24,000 service ! is that cheap ?

they have told me they will look after my 993 better than any OPC as its the newer vehicle that the OPC like to deal with, and they will be more caring to the older Porsche's.

I must say, in the car park of Parr, there was mostly 993's and 964's !

Thanks again for the advise from everyone, and keep the "taping the relay on the floor" thing in mind if any of yours go down.

I use Parr - were very good

Now use bourne performance - mainly as they are much closer (sittingbourne) and also lots cheaper too - standard of work is absolutely exceptional - did my plugs and fuel filter (trickiest items to do on a 993TT) for £150 plus parts! 01795 437111

I had a smiliar problem on a BMW some years ago. The RAC man suggested it wasn't the fuel pump but more likely the fuel pump relay. He locatedthe relay and tapped it with a screwdriver and hey presto all was well.
