I have a 2001 996 which is overheating. It is not low on coolant but when the engine temp is getting hot the radiators and heater are still cold. It is also dripping some coolant on the floor from the engine area but not to a geat extent. Any ideas anyone?

water pump?

thermostat?

don't overheat it, theres not a quicker way to ruin an engine than to overheat it

Thermostat I reckon. Get it booked into a specialist ASAP. I suspect the coolant leak is coolant coming out of the overflow as the water overheats.

I thought thermostat but had the car was fixed yesterday and it was the water pump. The plastic (can you believe!) paddles had fallen apart so water wasn't being pumped. Think I had a very lucky escape not causing some rather serious heat induced problems. Anyone know how to bleed the coolant system when refilling?
