Gear Shifter problem

Removing the original manual shifter on my '97 C2S is supposed to be an easy job. I have released the leather boot, but cannot get the sh*ter off. It is supposed to just pull upwards to remove.

Problem - it's stuck fast and won't budge! Any experience/advice or suggestion most welcome.
Cheers

If its the same as my old BMW you have to give it a damn good tug - mind your hand on the roof lining when the ***** comes off tho!

Don't know if it will help but there is an article on the p-car site that shows you how to remove the gear stick:

Resorted to cutting the original out.

I think it may have been glued in place under the previous ownership.

It's replacement looks fab - a modified ally 996 job with Porsche crest.
