Hi guys an girls(if there are any!).

I have a 993 porsche 1997 model, which i have recentley bought. The car seems to be on standard shocks with a lowered spring kit ,the brand of which im unsure of! Well to say that the car drives poor is an understatement, massive oversteer if performance is used round the twists, and its bumpy as hell. Infact its horrible. The car also tends to wander left to right, this i assume is due to incorrect wheel alignement, and the fact tht the front wishbone bushes seem to be really worn this also seems to be giving a knocking sound over bumps?potholes of which there are thousands of! The car sits way to low aswell, its near impossible to tackle speed humps, im going to overhaul the car myself so hopefully sorting these troubles out isnt a problem however with no previous experience in what works best for porsche, im hoping you guys and girls cud shed some light on a few queries:

1)What is the best uprated slightly lowered suspension combination to use? I dont want my fillings knocking out! Im looking at koni shocks and eibach springs, any one had any experience of these on a 993, or have any other suggestions? Or shall i stick to standard springs, any info here would be appreciated.

2)Does any one know of replacement bushes for the front wish bones? Or is it a buy the complete arm job? I think i can get powerflex bushes, any one with any experience with these? I was hoping to get hold of some standard replacements, but no one seems to sell them.

3)Now the most famous question: more power! Any particular cat bypass, exhausts, filters, or other mods work well? Any one used the 3.8 big bore kit on a 3.6? Any one had any experience with rechipping the ecu, good results?

Cheers for that peeps!

I can probably help with the first question.

I have been looking/searching around to replace my shocks for a while now. The stock shocks apparently don't last more than 50k or so, and my car could do with an alignment check anyway, so I want to replace the shocks and sort out the alignment at the same time.

I did consider Koni but I was told they don't make shocks for 993 any more. I ahve now decided to use the Bilstein HD which can be used with standard, sport or after market lowering springs like the H&R which I beleive is quite good. For me I don't want to lower it so I'll use my standard springs with the Bilstein HD. If you really want to spend big money then the Bilstein PSS 9 adjustable spring/shock set seems quite popular, but they tend to give too firm a ride even on the softest setting.

Now I just want to make it clear that the opinion I have given is based on what I've read in a few forums like this one and not based on any personal experience with any of the set up. If anybody knows any different please let me know, hopefully before I go and spend a whole lot of money buying everything.

Thanks for that. Well as far as konis go, im sure they are still available. We run a busy vw audi specialists in cannock, and we do alot of performance upgrades for these vehicles, the koni eibach option works really well here which is why im looking into them. We deal with both companies and i have checked to see if they are available and howmuch they are. So im pretty sure i can source them, just really want to know if they work as well on porsche vehicles as they do on the cars we deal with! Cheers mate. P.s i get a trade deal on these shocks so i may be able to get u a discount!.

Jody,

1) a lot of people seem to have good experiences with Bilstein PSS9 adjustable coilovers. Another popular and less expensive option is the H&R spring/Bilstein HD combination

2) I can't help

3) Chipping and exhaust will give you extra 25hp max, often less. The 3.8 big bore kit is horendously expensive for the meagre gain. The best bang for the buck is the TPC supercharger kit. Something like £5K installed, for an extra 80hp or so. See
