Has it been hammered?

I'm after a 993 targa and have just seen one advertised at one of the smaller specialists...

It has everything on it that I'm after, it's up for a reasonable price (£34k) and has done less than 40k miles. In the notes, however, it states it has had a recent clutch replacement....

Should I be worried? Has it been hammered to require a new clutch at such an early stage? If so, are there any other tell tale signs I should look out for?

PS - As per numerous threads, I intend to get a PPI done if / when I decide to go ahead...

I have a 97 targa with 28000 on the clock and the OPC replaced the clutch at 27000 due to the release bearing becoming rough and noisy. (mine was bought at 20k miles immaculate from Porsche Guildford for £36.5k)

They have seen 993's with clutches replaced at lower milages... See dealer service section my posts on Porsche guildford. They also said that the 993 has a less robust clutch than my 1989 3.2 Carrera - which I sold after 65k miles on the same clutch.

Providing everything else is as you would expect at 40k miles, a clutch replaced is a bonus!

993 clutch.

No it does not prove its been hammered. In my experience 993 clutch will usually last 40-70000miles but so much depends on the way its been driven, gentle old ladies can have a detrimental effect on clutches too, as does town driving etc. Its a positive thing if the seller proves iots on a new clutch, you should have loads of life left in it.
