Does anyone have a any particular recommendations for tyres for a standard 993 c2. Front = 205 50 ZR17, Rear 255 40 ZR17. Someone told me its critical to have matched tyre brand and model for front and rear, but it seems many of the high performance tyres are OK for rear but not stocked for front.

The most important thing is they must have the "N2" rating - approved by Porsche.

I have Pirelli PZeros and no complaints.

PZeros. We had those, then michelin sports on. Not sure which was best.

I'm on conti-sports and I'm very pleased with them.

Tyres....well the choice is based on how deep your pockets are, on your driving style and how often you use the car.

Below is a brief guide on the most popular brands fitted to 911's from the factory and as after market purchases.

Pirelli PZeros - One of the most expensive to buy and run

+ points - ultimate grip in the dry due to soft compound

- points - VERY low mileage life 3000m, can catch you out in the wet, grip suffers due to compound mix, rebalancing wheels often due to tyre ware

Michelin Sports - Good all round tyre that's in the medium price range

+ points - fantastic grip in the dry, slightly harder compound than PZeros

- points - better mileage 4-6000m, good wet grip

Conti-Sports - Good all round tyre that's in the low to medium price range

+ points - good grip, longer mileage 5-6.500m, good wet grip

- points - less grip in the dry, higher transmitted road noise, harder compound

(The mileage figures are based on the rears and driving how a Porsche should be driven)

I hope this is of help.

Excellent brief Peter

What about SO2's or 3's?

I'm with JamesM in the bah humbug stakes. I've used Conti sports for 6-7 years now and find them a great all round tyre thats very competitively priced

Hi Chaps,

Don't get me wrong eveyone has a buget, even me, I've used all of the above brands with good results. The choice is down to the user.

I have owned a few 911's in my time, some I've raced, some "tracked" and some I've used for everyday. My tyre choice and advice has been based on the payoff between mileage covered and grip required.

James, your not a cheap skate, sorry if it came across that way.
