Just bought a lovely LHD '94 993, really the car is sound but......

1. I need to change the wheel centre crests - how is this done

2. I want to change to clear front lenses and side repeaters and red rear lamps - is that an easy job?

3. the airbag light stays on for approx. 30 secs after take off - have I got a problem?

4. to update the interior, I want to change the cassette holder for a CD holder - any clues?

5. I have seen an USA advert for a centre console armrest - is this UK available?

6. any suggestions how to remove sticky stuff from the centre console after taking out a 'mobile' phone holder?

Many thanks,

Martin

OK so I managed to get rid of the sticky stuff but the rest of my queries remain.

You guys not on this forum to help other members or what????

Well, if there is a member out there with a passion for 993's......please contact me.

Lenses are an easy job.

Don't know about airbag light, could be a loose connection.

I also want to know how to change to cd holder for our 996.

Don't know what you mean by armrest.

I changed all my lenses - and as noony says its a doddle. Genuine porsche parts aren't cheap though - I got a turbo set - white fronts and side repeaters and red (turbo) rears and it was about £225+vat. They look great though.

can't really help on the other stuff though ...

once everyone is back from hols you'll get an avalanche of replies

Noony,

Check out the Bird Automotive website for centre console armrest.

Do you have an address for the CD holder replacement?

Martin

I believe that armrest will only fit 996s-it actually opens out a tiny glovebox.

CD holder-Porsche UK?

Do you REALLY care what colour the lenses are? Is this a fashion thing? Thought that people discerning enough to own a Porsche were above that sort of thing --- or maybe I'm just getting old and have seen too much stuff over the years.

As for radios, our 993 is fitted with Blaupunkt Amsterdam radio with car phone facility. Great tool but have tried inserting our Orange sim card which does not render the phone element useable --- the car was originally German from new so could that mean the radio/phone will only accept Continental mobile cards? Suggestions welcome. And does anybody have an RC10 remote which fits to St Wheel?

CD rack --- well we have a 10 x changer so don't need one unless you want to carry a full collection with you -- have you given that route any thought?

Finally, having had a string of all manner of Italian stuff inc a Daytona & Miura S ( and a Maser 300s which doesn't count 'cos it was a pure racer), 13 Astons inc a DB4GT and a DB4GT Zagato ( one of 3 ex works L/W racers) I own my first Porsche and it is a wonderfully re-assuring motor. The closest I had been to one previously was at Thruxton when somebody called Nick Faure came past me on three wheels! Must try it sometime.

Finally(2) Noted a bit of to-ing & fro-ing about Porsche Insurance. Norwich U £603 F.C. inc FULLY COMP European travel, unlimited Green card. You have to push, shove and haggle but it works.

Hi Martin

Just a note of caution on the arm rest. You didnt say if yours is a Tip or manual. Mine has the armrest (drivers seat only) and is fine as even with 'manual changes' I'm using the steering wheel changer. Using the gear shift changer is very awkward if the arm rest is lowered. On a manual it would be a real pain. If I'm stating the blindingly obvious then I'll STFU .

Airbag light: I had this problem and it was caused by the battery being run down, and solved by a reset by the local Porsche specialist. Should be that easy.

Changing to red rear lamps - are they completely red, as US spec cars have? - i thought that was illegal here? and more of a trend within the Vauxhall Nova/boy racer circles?

I've got red lenses on my Karmann Ghia but with orange bulbs. When the indicators are flashing you get and darker orange light but very much different to the red for taillights/brakes. For the MOT if they get funny I swap my standard UK lenses on and voila. MOT in pocket - red lenses back on. Funny old game!

I have red lenses (turbo) on my car (rear). They are perfectly legal and look very nice... clear front lenses too... :D
