993 disk replacement

Can anybody tell me why the replacement of the 993 brake disks (front) is such an expensive exercise?

The disks and pads do not seem that expensive in comparison to other 911's but I keep on reading about people paying up to £1000 for the job.

Is the replacement something any ahlf handy mechanic could carry out or even better something that could be DIY by someone reasonably competant?

Confused?

Nelson

Sounds a bit unlikely to me - are you sure they weren't upgrading to 'big brakes' ? Normal pads shouldn't be much more than £50 per pair, discs could be a couple of hundred each (if they were a bit special) but I can't see it taking a huge amount of labour time. Maybe I'm missing something ?

discs, pads, sensors and labour for fitting, bleeding and cleaning ( cos the pads get seized in there sometimes) for the front could come very near to £4-500 at a main dealer, so getting the rears done as well may bring it up to the price you mentioned. Go to a good specialist will save you money on the labour.

I have just had a quote for New disks, pads and labour for my Carrera 4 S, which has the larger calipers and Turbo disks. The quote was 425.00 GBP and that was from Merlin Porsche.
