Hi all,

Just a quickie. I saw a 1994 L-reg 993 coupe tiptronic "S" today . Does the "S" exist ?, I know it's not a 2S or 4S and I don't know of any other "S" model. How can I tell ?.

Was there a tiptronic "S" ?. This one has additional gear shift buttons on the wheel.

By the way, clock reads 58000 kms ( I assume km as it is a LHD import from the Fatherland ) . Excellent condition throughout, price £ 19995,00.

What should I look out for with this Tiptronic version ?.

Will do a full HPI tomorrow, have chassis no. and reg.

Thanks for your valuable input.

Aram

but it has a slightly wider back end and 18 inch turbo wheels.

You saw a 993 for under 20 grand? Surely that was a typo

The only "S" models were, I believe, the C2S and C4S as you said. Perhaps this car had the badge changed as an option. I know no badging at all was an option for some 911s.

Mileage sounds nice and low. Does the condition of the seats, pedals and steering wheel back it up?

There isn't that much special to look for on a Tip. The gearboxes are very robust. They are down a little on the performance of a manual and aren't ideal for track days but are supposed to be very nice on the open road.

By the way, the "S" versions are not universally liked. Some people love them (mainly because of the styling) and some don't. Those that don't cite the heavier, slightly dead feeling to the steering and general handling caused by the extra width & weight. Tiptronic also kinf of goes against the "S" sporting label but so what.

THe flared rear wheel arches are standard for the S, as I think where the 18" wheels but I could be wrong on that one.

Do get an HPI check done but also get a PPI from a specailist. Even 993s have their problems.

Cheers, James

Tiptronic S just means steering wheel shifting

Standard tiptronic is gear lever shifting like on the 964

Ah. So it has no bearing on the rest of the car? It refers only to the gearbox (selector)?

Cheers, James

yes, it is just the tip system introduced in 1994 for the 993, it has nothing to do with the wide body 2S/4S cars.

Thanks for your insightful comments as always.

The car has an excellent HPI, mileage verified, no claims, theft or accidents.

The car will be MOT'd tomorrow by the trader and I will take it for a PPI later in the week.

Condition of interior is excellent, definitely backs up the mileage.

The back seems to be wider than normal 993's ( might just be my imagination ) and it has 18 inch turbo rims.

Hi Aram

I paid 24k for a cabrio model a year younger with the 'S' tip box also LHD so looks like the price is somewhere 'in court'. Some dealers who dont specialise in LHD are often a bit nervous and happy to move them on at a slight discount to other sellers. Did it have FSH all stamped up etc or were you relying on your HPI to start and the PPI to convince you? Net net, on that mileage, it does sound great value compared to some of the inde dealers stock prices. You didnt mention the colour so maybe thats the reason :)

Colour is Iris Blue. Have not yet seen FSH, but dealer says it has one.

Will be taking it for a PPI Thursday as it is being ( hopefully ) MOT'd today

Anyone know of a good PPI garage in Enfield / Potters Bar area ?.

Aram

To find a really good specialist you normally have to travel a bit. You are not "that" far from JZ Machtech in Kings Langley though. I hear they come high recommended, although I have no personnal experience.

Cheers, James

iris blue is a good colour but be careful for stonechips and so on. I dont think i have seen many standard 993s with turbo wheels?

Is the standard alarm / immobiliser on a 993 classed as Thatcham 1 ?.

I have been phoning around for Insurance quotes and most companies demand Thatcham class 1 security.

A few specialist sports car Insurance companies are happy to accept the manufsacturer's standard setup, but none could tell me if iut is Thatcham 1 or not ?.

By the way, quotes range from £ 1200,00 to £ 1450,00.

All the companies I have talked to regarding Insurance for a 964 RS have demanded a Thatcham 1 immobiliser. Fair enough really.
