a bit of a shock for me too when my recently acquired 993 blew a big cloud of smoke out when started.........

ahhhh...i've bought a lemon!

What colour is the smoke? ...only answer this if the day before you have thoroughly thrashed the motor within an rpm of it's life ...the 'boxer' config is prone to leaking a little oil past the valves when left standing for any length of time , so providing it's only a 'puff' of smoke and not a great cummulus of an expiration then all may be OK.
