Went to start the car today, moved from the garage and proceeded to wash it. Opened the engine lid cleaned channels etc closed the lid and upon start up the engine lid warning light was on. Opened the lid again and shut soundly but the light would not go out.
I then decided to remove fuse 18 (instruments etc) then replaced it hoping this might cure it but to no avail. Worse to follow, now as well as the engine lid warning light the airbag light is also illuminated. The centre consul warning light is also lit but this can be extinguished by pressing it.

Hi

That sounds strange. Especially for the airbag light to have come on. Did you use a pressure washer? The clue must be having just washed the car.

Sorry I cant be of more help. I think that light is the spoiler warning light rather than engine lid as such.

All the best

Berni

Hi Berni, you are correct that warning light is for the spoiler, just looked in the owners manual. Just for the record I only washed the car with a micro towel so no water entered the engine bay, all very strange.

Hi Allan E,

The spoiler light always comes on in my car when I start it. It disappears within a second after driving off. I believe that once you have air pressure on the spoiler the light goes out. Regarding the air bag light I did have an issue many years ago and OPC Kuwait just changed the bulb. Hope yours is as simple as that.

Yes, check the bulb first

In my experience, odd and apparently unrelated lights are often linked to battery status/condition? Just a thought - the spoiler and light were my first indicators on a 997.1.

The battery is only 1 year old and is always wired into a conditioner whilst the car is in the garage so the battery is fine. I will have to check spoiler wiring under the lid.

The spoiler warning light shall always be lit at ignition on. It shall extinguish at 5km/h, in practice just after you start rolling. This indicates a working speed signal input to the spoiler control unit.

As for your airbag light, the control unit might have had a hiccup, probably due to power supply problems during trickle charging or when connecting a charger. It could also be corrosion on the clock instrument connector or the warning light bulb, the bulb is supervised by the control unit.

I always disconnect the battery when storing the car to avoid power supply problems in control unis, and I regularily exercise the clock instrument connector.

Use a OBD tool to read out and clear the fault code that is causing the warning light to be on.
Cheers,
Tore

Well as previously stated the spoiler warning light does go out once you drive away, it must be a bloody age thing but I have never really noticed in almost three years of ownership, however the airbag light did stay on but after 10-15 seconds it went out. It is more than likely this has always been the case and I have never realised, the car has been unused for some weeks and due to the current lockdown it is probably not going to turn a wheel for some time.
Thanks to those who responded with their comments.

You are correct on the former but incorrect on the later. Even so the airbag light is now out, so all good. Thumb
