My new 997.1 turbo

I always enjoy reading people's 'car' stories so here goes with the background to my new 997.1 turbo.

Over the last few years I've been driving old low mileage BMWs on which someone else has paid all the depreciation (2001 330Ci cab followed by a 2004 Z4 3.0) I had a hankering for a Porsche. I started looking at Boxsters but then thought I'd go 'all in' and see if I couldn't push it to a 911. Last year I found a 2003 996.2 manual cab. I absolutely loved it. You may have seen some details of it on questions contributors to this forum kindly answered.

I had a PPI on that car and it got a very good report. However, in 7 months of ownership I had 6 warranty jobs done on it (Portiacraft were absolutely brilliant in sorting all of the issues) - all age related wear & tear which were to be expected at some point but they all came in a short period of time.

In December I got shunted from behind which required a new bumper & engine lid. No fault of mine and the other guy's insurer admitted fault. When I took the car to Portiacraft for repair I just happened to spot this 2008 turbo and wondered. 'Man-think' kicked into over-drive.

My thought process was helped along by the fact that last October I'd followed 'easternjets' across the Pennines - he had to wait in lay-bys for me to catch up!! The idea of a turbo was already germinating in my mind.

So a couple of weeks ago Portiacraft offered me a good trade-in on my 996 against this turbo.

It's 2008, 45k miles, 4 previous owners, tiptronic, basalt black, sunroof, rear wiper delete, multifunction steering wheel, park assist, Bose, sports chrono, auto-dim mirrors/rain sensor... think that's it.

It's like nothing else I've ever driven! I need to be careful I don't lose my licence!!

I'm a photographer and went out this afternoon and took one or two quick photos which I'll post on this thread. (can someone tell me how to post multiple pictures - I've searched but can't find out).

If you like my car shots - I'm based 10 miles from Warwick.

oh... and it has yellow callipers but not ceramics, plus 19" BBS sport wheels in satin black

Lovely car and welcome to the turbo club :thumb:

Great cars and no doubt you'll love it. Keep the updates (and photos) coming, love the look of the wheels. Is the exhaust standard? And what's your view on sound of the turbo coming from a n/a??

With regards to photos - I find it easiest to use postimage, this then provides a hotlink for forum photos
