On a separate note, what's the best way to clean up the rubber gaitor?

Couldn't resist... Thumb

Re rubber gaitor, I use the following on door seals. It removes the white residue and restores to a nice matt black:

Is it similar to gummi pflege?

I tried that and it didn't come up as well as expected.

It is a similar product yes. It's been a good few years since I used BMW's Gummi Pflege which did work on creaking door seals.

I've heard Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care is good although personally haven't tried it yet.

That's the gummi pflege I was referring to. I've used before on seals etc but it didn't bring the gaitor to as nice a finish as I'd expected. Is it what you used?

I bought a new gaiter as mine was well beyond repair.

I have however used the SONAX product on my AMG door seals to good effect.

Mine's new too as I didn't have one. Came with a lot of white residue on it though.

Asked the Q on another forum and this is what came back recommended

https://www.slimsdetailing.co.uk/chemical-guys-new-look-tire-trim-gel.html?refSrc=7510&nosto=nosto-page-product2

or this depending on the finish you prefer
