Guys ,

Just a quick post to raise awareness of the gob smacking experience i have had with my 996 turbo and Redline racing-thornaby stockton on tees.

After my initial rolling road i was made aware that my car was leaking boost.

After approaching redline and explaining the situation my car was booked in for further diagnostics

When i first walked in to there premises i was greeted by a friendly receptionist

And looking in to the garage i was impressed by all there expensive racing cars (I thought i was in the right hands).

A few days later i received the call that my car was ready.
£811 later plus loss of earnings plus getting a friend to drop my off.
I was told that the mechanic was more than happy enough for the car to go back to the rolling road as all the leaks had been fixed.

So my return trip to the rolling road tuner i was advised once again that my car still has a boost leak???????

After communicating again with redline
The chief mechanic informed me that they never boost leaked the car because they didn't own a boost leak tool !
They usually deal with naturally aspirated.
There protocol for finding boost leaks is to open the bonnet and visually inspect for holes with the naked eye............

I approached the owner of the company about my experience in an attempt to remediate the situation amicably via a conference call .

Unfortunately he never got back to me which didn't make me feel like a valued customer.

I'll be raising a complaint with motor ombudsman services next week for malpractice and will look to retrieve the money owed.

WATCH OUT FOR THESE PIRATES !!!!!

If you paid any part on credit card issue a section 75 chargeback claim with your card provider ie you paid for a repair which they failed to deliver. The onus will be on them to prove that they rectified the issue.

Wow it's incredible what passes for qualified technician these days.

Love to see how the bill of £811 was reached :?

That's true, wtf?

Hey if anyone needs a boost leak looking at, I'm happy to look at your car in my garage, with a magnifying glass and it will only cost £811

Id be willing to offer the same service for just £500 , now that's a great saving :p

Did they do any work on the car ? Replace any parts or did they actually just look at it ?

Wow , unlucky

With so many other porsche specialists not far away looks as though you were unlucky

To boost leak test it they would have had to pressurise and block off all sorts i expect

Expect a stroppy PM from them OP. If anyone says anything about them on here they like to fire the PM's off.. Ask me how I know

I too have had a shoddy experience with them and a bill for very little work. I considered it a cheap lesson never to return and found a much better Indy less than 5 miles away.

But.. they do seem to have lots of satisfied customers and as we all know, you can't please everyone all the time.

How does it come to £811 for visual inspection with no parts?

Visually inspecting a boost leak is next to impossible, even with a smoke tester its difficult because some leaks only show under full boost.

Sounds like you have had your pants pulled down.

If they have a rolling road then all they need to do is run the car up to speed to create boost and spray with soapy water and look for the bubbles

In fact you don't even need a rolling road just jack the car up and have someone keep throttling it in gear to create boost while you look for the leak with soapy water

Can I ask who that is ragpicker?
I do most of my own spannering but occaisionally need diagnostics or specialist stuff.

There isn't a specific kit to check for boost leaks as far as I'm aware? 9e have made their own.

It highlights a good point though. A very high percentage of 996 turbos running with a boost leaks of some sort now they are 20 years old. Get them down to an indy family with the cars if they do not feel right even if just for boost leak test and have those rectified. The car will come back to life.
