Hello all,

Just had some new boots all round put on the car (PS2's) and want to get the tracking etc sorted whilst at it - anywhere decent in the Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire area? :dont know:

Thanks!

It might be a bit far from you (Southampton) but I just had my 996 Carrera 2 four wheel aligned at the Wheel Alignment Centre.

www.wheelalignmentcentresouthampton.co.uk

Small and unassuming place but the guy really knows what he is doing (And incredibly good value!) He utterly transformed my car. He was recommended to me by a number of friends and I'd now thoroughly recommend him myself.

is 9e in Horley too far?

Strange as it may seem but if you just want it adjusted to factory settings then Halfords or similar can do the job .

They wont know if there's any problems etc but with the hunter system they have then a factory setting is the cheapest option .

Kwikfit - they have the Hunter Hawkeye that all the known places use.

Given past personal experience I wouldn't trust the likes of kwick fit, they may have the equipment, but there ability to use it and ensure it's fit for purpose is limited. I'd certainly look at a specialist, https://www.alignmycar.co.uk/ might help identify some in your area that people may recommend on here.

You just have to watch them and make sure they do it right.

Same goes for 90% of today's population.

It's been a while since I've had this done, how did it transform your car may I ask?

Thanks!

Only 90% ?!

How hard can it be to keep adjusting until all the boxes are green? The added bonus is when they are green but also in the middle of the range of the green.

The problem is when they don't set stuff up right - like clamping the steering wheel at a slight angle or not locking nuts up once adjusted.

Just because the boxes are green doesn't mean it's as accurate as it could or even correct.

I had dealing with them where no matter how many green boxes light it the car still didn't drive right, after about three attempts I gave up. I literally went from one place to the other, they put on their hunter and it was way out.

They then set it up correctly and it drove perfectly. I took all the print back to KW to challenge them, they couldn't argue stating it had just been calibrated 3 weeks ago. They got the calibration guy back, guess what, turns out it was his equipment that was faulty. So for at least 3 weeks he'd been carrying out calibrations with faulty equipment and all those garages had done god knows how many alignments in that time.

Fair point, I has made the fatal mistake of assuming that whoever set up the machine had calibrated it correctly and whoever put the car on the rig knew what they were doing.... A risk at any general tyre fitters to be fair.

Exactly, hence why I would and always will seek a more specialised type rather than a general tyre fitter type place.

OPC use Hunter .. OPC use an outside company to calibrate the system .

kwik fit or OPC .. both are serviced by the same people and as such have no way of knowing if the service company guy is stupid .

Indys .. well .. we all use different systems so i can't comment there .

Always have done and always willl use Center Gravity, Chris Franklin. Absolute perfection! Worth the journey!!!! :thumb:
