Recent Drive to Italy and Switzerland

Last month I and 10 other 911 (991) car owners had an amazing week driving to Italy, stopping at Stuttgart en route as we had pre-booked the Porsche 911 factory tour. It was amazing to see the whole process from engine build to leather upholstery assembly, the marriage of the body to the engine, and final assembly. We had to hand in our phones and cameras as no photography is permitted whilst on the factory tour! Then we headed off for 3 days at Arabba. We used Arabba as our base for excursions on the various Dolomite passes. We then went our separate ways, some starting on the way back to the UK via Munich and some continuing their driving tour to other destinations. I decided to do some sight-seeing in the Jungfrau region using Interlaken as my base for the next 3 days, visiting Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, and Harder Kulm. First, and the highlight of the trip, was visiting the Sphinx Observatory which is also known as the 'Top of Europe' on Jungfraujoch mountain. I returned to the via UK Metz in France.

As you can appreciate a convoy of 911's created a bit of interest, especially when parked up! Frequently people took selfies of themselves next to our cars! Generally other drivers were very courteous and saw that we were in a convoy and let is pass. Finding suitable parking was another matter!

A few pics!

Amazing matey! Awesome pics. Thanks for posting.
That's a proper road trip you'll never forget.

I went up Yungfrau in 2012. Great day out.
We are back in Interlaken on our upcoming trip. Think we'll do Harder Kulm this time.

Anyway, again thanks for posting, it has only added to my growing excitement. 8)

Defiantly recommend Harder Kulm via the Funicular, which operate quite late in the evening so I had my evening meal at the restaurant over looking the amazing view of Interlarken and the Jungfrau region.

Thanks for the info and yes that's exactly what I'll be looking to do as I was just reading a blog last night from someone who went up and stayed for sunset. 8)

Great to see those cars being used as intended. I love the UK but you haven't lived until you've driven through the Alps. It's what life is all about isn't it. :thumb:

Stunning pictures and brings back great memories from when we just used to take 911's, I think we had 10 together on one trip.

I have an urge to get back to the Dolomite's, some of the scenery is totally amazing and the passes are also to die for, I might have to make it happen after seeing your trip.

As others have said, thank you for sharing, its definitely wet my appetite for a road trip, just need to find a space in the calendar! Have always fancied the factory tour, last time I was in Stuttgart it was during summer hols so it was on shut down. Had to make do with the BMW museum at Munich which is worth a coffee and cake break !

Ps love the ' fun ' number plate on the red cabriolet !

All the best

These pictures are fantastic - what camera (phone? surely not?) did you use out of interest?

Those pictures are utterly ridiculous! :worship:

I used a Sony A7iii with with a Sony FE 16-35mm zoom lens. If you go to the Flickr photo album and select the individual photo you can see the setting I used, such as aperture and speed etc.

:worship: re the trip and especially the photos.

In September I'm doing a trip through Germany ending up in the Swiss Alps (Grimsel/Furka etc). Your story sets me up nicely for 2020 and beyond. :thumb:

Sounds and looks like a superb trip. Great photography. Out of interest, what was the total mileage?

Awesome trip of a lifetime, thanks for showing those fab pictures, I want to go to some of those places one day soon. :worship:
