What I don't understand is why some 98/99 cars are advertised as having an upgraded IMS, its not clear why a car with the double row bearing would need that?

They have them because of ill-informed articles online and in magazines which don't distinguish between the different engine models and bearings. There is also a lot of hype from people selling alternative solutions.

I had concluded that, but didn't want to say it out loud in case I had missed something.

Seems to me 98/99 996 at sub £10k is a pretty safe purchase in the grand scheme of things.

Definitely a safe purchase if you’re handy with tools and have the space like you have. I think they are there for the buying and enjoying. There are many little jobs that need doing on mine (door mirror needs fettling, door window squeaks and gets stuck on the way up) but they are minor irritants that haven’t affected my enjoyment of driving it to work every day (not enough to get the tools out yet)

Have done 1200 miles so far!

Ok, maybe I’m not being totally truthful there as the window is starting to irritate me just enough to start thinking about doing something about it (Apart from applying rubber treatment to the seal but it squeaks even when the door is open and with the scraper seal on the outside pulled away)

And how can I remove or delete from my driving history that I learned to drive in a 1980 chocolate brown Allegro? Watching Top Gear with Flintoff in his Allegro estate caused flashbacks and shivering!

Best way to wake up...definitely better than a baby scream waking you up! Smile

I’m at junction 11 on the M4, let me know if you drive past and I’ll get you a coffee and a bun!

He is, but rarely posts these days.

Damit, both of my number plate lights are broken (and don’t seem to work with just the wiring but will have a look at that at the weekend)

Any tried these or should I just go to Porsche and get the proper ones?

Do a search on here, I think they're a VW group part and those will be cheaper than Porsche, someone posted about it recently.
