Porsche classic service

Spoke to Porsche today to get some history on a car I want to buy and they mentioned that the 996 now qualifies for this service.

Has anyone done this and is it worth getting a minor service for to get the benefit?

I have used the Porsche Classic Service.....but not all OPCs offer it, so you will have to phone round and see who offers this pricing.

It saved a lot of money over the standard service pricing. OPC Cambridge did a great job and it cost £310 for a minor service, the other OPCs I spoke to (who wouldnt offer the Classic price) wanted around £700 for the same service..... As an additional bonus, you apparently get added to the Porsche Classic Register (but am still waiting for the paperwork on that - so cant comment whether thats any good).

AHH... That would then explain why Porsche South London quoted me 640 for the same service!

Looks like a minor service, poly belt, airbag check, brake fluid and transmission fluid change will be about £600 all in. A specialist I normally use would be about 480 - but a 150 mile round trip!

Plus the extras the Porsche classic club come with (Inc 4 X washes and vacuums, 15% discount on parts, Porsche classic number plate holder (yes I know...no real value but looks smart) and the Porsche stamp in the book will make it worth the price diff.

Will still go to specialist for big work though :)

Don't forget free nitrogen refills of your tyres. That's the bullet feature.

Does nitrogen make a huge difference?

And guessing I would need to go back to Tonbridge for that as opposed to using my local main dealer?

I think he was being ironic....

When I read the gumpf on the classic Register, the main bit that interested me was the 15% parts discount....

I am planning to drop the engine (to do a brake line, check the IMS (and remove the seal) and do the AOS (not gone, but I think its on its way) - so will definitely need some parts. However it apparently takes several months (after your service) for the Classic membership to be sorted (admin).....

Sorry I should also add, you typically get a new Porsche as a courtesy car.....which is a bit of fun.

Would the OPC not honour the discount if they know the car and that you have applied for the classic club thing?

Learnt about courtesy cars the hard waybwith my 996 turbo - took it for a service on a Monday and loan car hadnt been returned as yet, so they have me an apology and a Golf GTD!

Wasn't a bad car to be fair - but wasn't the sort of courtesy car I wanted to have fun with!

I get my C2 serviced at Nottingham OPC for a very reasonable price each year. I mainly do it to get a day out in a new Porsche with my lad, which he enjoys. Last year we used it to take a crankshaft and a pair of case halves up to Hartech and a nice drive around the area.

Discounts on parts tend to vary, but I have had up to 20% in the past, it depends on the margins they have and how much the staff like you....

Hi "Kingb4" .... could I ask when you had your Classic service at OPC Cambridge, was it within the last 12 months? I was browsing though the Classic servicing stuff on the website but didn't spot OPC Cambridge on the list of dealers. Would be good to know that they still offer it before I call them for a quote for my major this year. Cheers!

Hello SeeFourEsse - I got is serviced at the start of March by Cambridge OPC, using the Classic Service menu.....so about 7 weeks ago.

I phoned round a few OPCs (including those that i think Porsche owns) and most dont seem to offer the Classic Service.

Mister Corn - Geekily, that sounds a great day out....
