Fitting turbo actuators

Hi

It seems one of my actuators rods has broke. I have bought a set of Porsche actuators and I am considering fitting these myself. Is this a good idea or should I leave this to an Indy?

Thanks

If you don't have any corrosion issues then they are easy to fit however they also need to be set up correctly which requires a pressure tester.

The corrosion issues could be that the two mounting bolts may be seized into the turbo cover and may shear.
Another problem can be getting the rods out of the pivot on the wastegate arm.
The pipe to the actuator body is also a very tight fit.

Once you've managed to fit the actuators they need adjusting with a pressure pump so that with 0.5 bar applied the rods have moved by 4mm from the fully shut position, you achieve this by adjusting the nuts either side of the pivot and obviously both sides need to be exactly the same so each turbo does the same amount of work.

Also those settings are for a standard turbo, don't know if an X50 is different!

Ps quite a few people have repaired their original ones by either welding a new bit of rod on or fitting a threaded collar!

Personally, I'd have them fitted by an indy specialist. They require calibration, they are not the easiest for access without a ramp to stand under the car.

Made this up when i replaced one of mine[/url]
