Hi all,

I'm considering going to look at a car that I previously disregarded on search results, but took a closer look at today. Wanted some thoughts...

  • * 95K, manual C4S coupe
    * arctic silver / graphite grey interior
    * 2004

Some good things about the car

  • * over 5K spent in last 2y:
    * Full Service History
    *Fron top mounts and shocks replaced
    * rads replaced
    * IMS / RMS done
    * Brake pipes replaced
    * Track rod and control arm replaced

Some bad things:

  • * Graphite Grey - I think I can get past this...
    * 9 owners - seems a lot...
    * Dent in front bumper - how much for a pull and respray do you think?
    * Wheels need refurbing - what's the going rate for C5S twist wheels?
    * Exhaust boxes need doing - that seems like a £1K job but no biggie.
    * Clutch done 6y ago. Might need doing again...

I'm planning on going to see it, as I've never seen a graphite grey in the flesh before (but they do look questionable on photos...)

Without cheating... What seems like the right sort of money for this car?

Oh since it's had 9 owners: Anyone know of E U 0 4 W M T?

My first question would be to ask what it means by the IMS being done?

MC

That's low mileage for its age. * IMS / RMS done needs to be in the bad things section. I paid well under £100/corner last year for the full monty on the wheels. I'd say price wise £20kish

Cazana say £20,921 - £21,449

The good things outweigh the bad things - subject to clarification on the IMS bearing issue - and 9 owners in 15 years could point to it being bought and cherished 9 times rather than being passed on due to ..... whatever.

95k miles is a turn-off for many so I'd want it for under £20k.

There's a c4s on eBay with an engine rebuild and seems well sorted on a 22k but could be negotiated, it's 140k miles though..

Bought my 4S with 96k on the clock and its been a joy.

But its needed suspension work, an AOS and some attention to the brake lines, so that these have been done is a good thing.

Agree with what Alex says re wheels, bumper PU repair.

Get the IMS checked out should it need a clutch. Find out who did it and satisfy yourself they knew what they were doing when they replaced the bearing.

The 04 cars were moved to 2 yearly service intervals which is not ideal, so see how many services its had.

Go see it!

I have Graphite Grey interior in my C4S, although it's Atlas Grey on the exterior. So a very nice contrast imo, not sure if it will have the same effect on artic silver.

It takes a little more effort to clean, but once clean looks great and makes the cabin feel a lot brighter inside.

On balance it sounds looked after. Some thoughts:

Top mounts: these are expensive for the C4S, but are you saying only the front shocks were replaced? If so I expect the rears will need doing.
Brake pipes: if this is all the hard lines, fantastic. If it's just the flexis then it's no bad thing, but it's the hard lines that are problematic.
Front bumper: remove, repair, respray about £500 depending on the repair needed.
Clutch: time won't wear it but miles and driving style will.

Good luck. As I say, on balance sounds good. IMHO.

Odd that the online MOT history only goes back to '17.

If it's had a (or more) private plate on it at some time this can cause a gliche on the MOT history checking data base.
