corrosion causes spring collapse

Thought some might like to see pics of my recently broken springs, they broke at the site of corrosion, so next time you have your wheels off it might be an idea to check them.

...mot failure with Porsche 996 C2 front spring broken; replaced both and top mounts and new bumpstops purchased from my OPC plus stripped and regreased top bearing.

Corosion was the issue..

Front and a rear at the same time :eek:

Now thats unlucky .

Corrosion point is where the coil spring starts to lift away from the shock .. im not sure you can do anything to help prevent this .. wax oil etc .. but its where they all seem to break .

Rears and its at the base .
 
Spooky - My front off side snapped this morning whilst reversing off the drive. Snapped on bottom coil with a similar corroded area.
Presumably best to get them both replaced at same time?

Bummer, yes I think they only sell them in pairs, but best to replace both.
