It does seem strange assuming it all happened as the OP says, bearing in mind I have no reason to think it didn't. It would seem to me if all the previous repairers did check the oil for contamination that something catastrophic happened such as a main cap gave way or something. I had WarrantyWise on my car for four years and they always managed to not pay out a bean even after Mr Wilsons promise of no weasel words. Mine is now on Hartech's maintenance plan, they, I have faith in.
 
Sounds an odd one - I don't doubt the engine has 'grenades' but I do always suspect there are other issues when folks consider them 'over serviced', particularly when and where this was done.

Any decent indy worth their salt should unravel the oil filter every time an oil change is done - I always do mine.

Warrantywise? PMSL.
