Replacement dipped beam headlight bulbs

Hi,

My 997.1 Targa 4 does not have Xenon headlights and the original dipped beam halogen bulbs are now past their best.

What bulbs do you recommend replacing them with?

I've seen lots of reviews for halogen bulbs, but almost all fail to mention how long the +130% or +150% bulbs last. I've seen that Philips state that some of their bulbs only last 200 hours.

I'm looking for a reasonable compromise between performance and working life.

Over to you...

Thanks in advance.

Simon

I fitted some of the brighter +130% halogen bulbs to our X5 (Osram nightbreaker IIRC)... lasted well over a year of normal use and were doing fine, but in the end I swapped them out for a HID kit.

They were an improvement, but frankly not a revelation.

HIDs not an option for me, as I don't have self-levelling lights nor headlight washers, both of which are required if HID lights are fitted. Also, the MOT test has been tightened up so that HID kits fitted into light assemblies not designed for them will result in the car failing the MOT test. ("Existing halogen headlamp units shouldn't be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp."
