I was thinking the other day about some amazing cars I've been in over the years, and thought others must be some stories to tell on here...

Highlights for me;
- a ride in a week old 993 RS Clubsport, driven by a madman along little Norfolk lanes.
- being allowed to sit in, start and reverse Rod Stewart's Ferrari F50 out of a dealer's garage.
- laps round Castle Combe in an XJ220, driven by a Jaguar development driver.

Anyone else?

When I was looking for my UR Quattro I was taken out by a good driver in a very quick swb version. Unbelievably quick and levels of grip.

A 'Spirited' run out along the local twisties in a Ferrari Dino belonging to a family friend & 'gentleman' racer who I was pit crew for in the old Ingleston race track days .....
F00k could he drive and the click clack of the metal gate gearchange was just music to a young bikers ears ......probably put me on the rocky road that has been my car buying/ driving illnes that still grips me ....

The old fella is in his 80's now but he only drives a 360 Modena now ....!
Oh ....and a mint Morris minor !

Amazing cars been in.

Being driven by Bjorn Waldegard in a Lancia Stratos during a rallycross sprint at Silverstone, then later that afternoon by Markku Alen in the Lancia 037. Quite exciting and the car control was amazing.Made our track racing seem quite tame. Mike.

De Tomaso Pantera :worship: :worship: :worship:
I used to work part time in my off season for a London car dealer and on a regular basis used to drive ex M.O.D. Land Rovers to Italy and on the return leg bring back some exotic supercars.
Many were a real trial to drive for a lengthy journey, not the Landies they were like being in a metal bin beaten with a baseball bat non stop every time

However on a return leg in a beautiful red De Tomaso from Turin, I really fell for the car, big time!
One moment of note was 2 motorcycle cops pulling alongside and motioning for me to give it the beans.
At first I was cautious they were setting me up, but as they became more and more insistent, waving me on ever more frantically, I thought I was much more likely to get arrested in Italy for not giving it some stick :D
So I duly obliged and ragged the big V8 in every gear, honestly, I felt like I was living the dream and had gone to heaven as the cops faded into the rear view waving me on :bye:
I bought the car on my return and ran it for two blissful years and only sold it when I was offered such crazy money for it that it was truly ' an offer I couldn't refuse' Seemed appropriate given its back story :D

...modded Nissan Gtr35...an absolute animal of car with massive license losing performance...

A mate has took me for a run in his new Corvette Grand Sport Carbon 65 - admittedly its not to everyone's taste, but I loved it. It sounds amazing.....

Loved runs in a Cobra (replica, but a decent one) and Westfield. Both cars, I would love to have owned.

Of the cars I have owned, I miss my Mini 1275GT (seriously modified) and Mk2 Escort etc....

Walked in the boozer one Friday night and there's a Lambo Diablo on the car park. Bumped into an old school mate in there and starts chatting. Turned out it was his and said "here you go, take it for a spin". So I grabbed my nearest mate, dragged him outside, jumped in and took it for a good thrashing up the dual carriageway that the pub was next to. Came back into the pub, shaking like a leaf, and gave him his keys back with the world's biggest grin on my face.

2 hours and 6 pints later some chav drives onto the car park in his highly tuned Nissan Sunny GTI-R. Chav mate hangs out the passenger window shouting "who's is that Lambo, we'll annihilate it!". It was middle of summer and the pub was heaving on the veranda outside. Owner mate shouts "Alex", chucks me the keys & says "go and nail that ****". Like a pillock I downed my pint, jumped in his car and within seconds we were both lined up on the dual carriageway doing a drag race when the lights turned. Totally blew him away but on the return journey I took it easy as I couldn't get the headline of the next day's paper out my head.

He got back to the boozer before me and claimed he'd beaten me whilst everyone just laughed at him.

Seemed like a good idea at the time but looking back was probably one of the most stupidest things (well, in my top 10) I've ever done. Was bloody quick though and the fastest & most exotic thing I've ever driven. I still wonder how many months inside I'd have got if I'd have been pulled.

Some cracking ones on here,

The one that I savour was driving a Mercedes AMG GTS on mountan roads around Bavaria & Salzburg for a few days on my 50th Birthday,
stayed a week in Berchtesgaden drove past where Hitlers Bergof used to be up the mountain road to visit the Eagles Nest, thought that was quite ironic in one of Mercedes finest. 8)

Aged 16, one of our customers took me to his company Christmas party in his brand new Guards red Porsche 911 SuperSport in the howling sleet and wind, he didn`t spare any ponies

My 1st drive in a Porsche, a 997 GT3 Racecar round Mira Handling circuit, drove a Ferrari 360 Modena, Lamborghini Gallardo, AM DB9, TVR 250S and Ariel Atom all on that same day

Yuasa used to be a supplier of mine and were always very hospitable (I was a big customer). One day I had a call from my guy at Yuasa offering me some laps with Matt Neal during testing of the new season's Civic. I drove 2 hours to get to Donnington for 4 minutes in the car with Matt Neal.

I was folded through the cage, strapped in so tightly I could hardly breathe and told to "NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!" The smell of fuel / fumes and the ridiculous turn of speed left me feeling quite sick and my legs were like jelly! I thought it was awesome though!!

Matt Neal, on the other hand, was frustrated with so many pitstops, complaining that his tyres were losing heat. I guess that's the not so glamorous side of being a racing driver - promotional / pr stuff entertaining corporate grinning idiots like me.

(And in true Phil997 style, here's me at another event "not touching anything")

Oh and my grandpa's 1929 Austin Seven is pretty cool too!!

Great thread! 8)

Infra I'm jealous. Performante is my current favourite lottery win car.
Kris the 997 Cup sounds like a treat.

Squelch great post. You've just summed up exactly how a proper racing car smells and feels.
My mate Andy had an ex-BTCC 306 then moved on to this Ford Falcon ex Australian touring car.
He occasionally puts a passenger seat in it for pre-season track days. Same thing applies, touch nothing and strap your feet down so you don't kick the ecu to bits. :D
The smell, the noise, everything. Even from the pax seat I'm scared.

Here it is at Goodwood FOS -

Here he is going from last to 2nd at Donny. He doesn't get a clear track until about 4 minutes in. -

Road car wise - Anything driven by someone who can pedal properly. I've had memorable rides/drives in all models of GT3s, 430 Scud, 458, Caterham R500.

My old Global was pretty good when it worked.

Anyway great thread. Keep the pics coming.

I've a feeling the winner is Poppopbangbang if he sees this thread.

Edited to add - Alex, if one of your stories doesn't ever involve downing a pint before or after any given activity, I'll think someone's hacked your account.
Sounds like fun times though. Those Lambo's are big old bruisers. :thumb:

I was going through a loose end lad stage in my life after jusr coming out of an 8 year relationship. Every spare minute was spent in that boozer. Still can't believe how stupid I was doing what I did.
