Hi,
I've read lots of searched posts about this but can't find a definite answer, some say it's dead and it's a new (expensive) OPC replacement others that it can be repaired.
The issue is that everything worked fine until last night but now it won't lock or unlock with the fob, battery replaced, red light comes on but nada.
I've only got the one proper key, I did have another cut from a pic as an emergency one so what would people recommend as the best long term solution.
Thanks

Best long term is replace the fob .. the car will still start , you just have to unlock it via the key barrel for now .
There have been various ways posted to get a non working fob to work again .. i have to admit it rarely works for me ..
The reverse of the key battery or just leaveing it out for 30 mins is the only time ive got it working again .
I would say that you need to take it appart and have a good look at the circuit board with a magnifieing glass to look for any obvious dry joints or problems first .. sometimes a soldering iron on the joints can fix it . _________________ .

No joy with the battery flip or half hour wait 🙁
I removed the circuit board, do I pull the battery holder off so I can see the circuit board properly. It didn’t seem to come off with a gentle pull?
Thanks _________________ 2002 Porsche 996 C2

Left mine in my jeans and went in the washing machine. It's never worked since. But it's clean and it smells nice
Luckily I've got a spare. This thread has just reminded me to get it fixed/replaced _________________ 2012 997.2 Turbo Basalt Black. Bit of a 9E ing.

have been thru the same problem, tried everything, even hanging upside down reading the koran, only solution visit to porsche garage, this seems common enough problem. i wasted 75 pounds getting key fob refurbished . porsche charged the same plus new fob, i think fob was seventy pounds. regards

It’s booked into Porsche for Friday. £250, £150 for the head and £100 for programming. They can fit the new head to the second blade I had cut so at least i’ll have a new fully functioning key and the broken original as back up that will still start it.
I thought it was expensive but a guy in the office has just told me he had to pay £360 for a new Volvo key. _________________ 2002 Porsche 996 C2

Make sure you give them all the keys you have that work .. so if you have a Valet key give them that .. we only have 4 slots to code keys and without the others we have to guess which slot to delete if all 4 have been used .
