As mentioned in another thread I've just collected my Porsche... 997 Gen 1 Cab. I've got some initial questions and would appreciate some opinions from you expert owners...

1 - I need new rear discs. I'd like to change them myself and have looked at what's available. Pagid and Sebra are available at EuroCarParts. Are these any good... or should I be looking at something else?
2 - I'll change pads when changing the discs, but what pads? And should I do the handbrake pads at the same time?
3 - Front tyres. I have Pirelli's all round at the moment, I have read that Michelin are favoured, should I go down that route?
4 - Front Grills - I have a lot of leaves and debris in the front, should I put a grill on the front or is this a Porsche faux pas.
5 - LED rear lights... as above yes or no?
6 - Car Cover - I'd like a good fitted outdoor cover for the time it may not be used in the winter.
7 - Last one for now.... the 90 degree turning clips in the luggage department, know where I can get any?

Thank you in advance for anyone that answers any of the above. You help is greatly appreciated.

Pagid are fine. Check carparts4less as well using the discount code on their home page. The same company but usually cheaper.

Get grills fitted.

Any specific parsche clips and trims are usually cheapest from OPC.

1 - Pagid are good. I have them on mine.
2 - Not sure
3 - Personal judgement. I personally like Goodyear Asymmetric F1s.
4 - Yes get grills. Zunsport are good.
5 - LED lights are nice.

1. Pagid are fine I think they might be the oem ones anyway but I could be wrong cp4l have them for £65.99 with the current discount
https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4...97ea8f5384c743e64e5be20ac47abe2b7d082d&000027

You can also always get discounts from them using the following codes if you spend over certain amounts as follows and if you separate what you buy you can get bigger discounts using them if you can be bothered to do more than one order

£50 = cp5less = £5 off
£75 = cp10less = £10 off
£100 = cp15less = £15 off

2. Never had to do mine
3. Up to you but most see the m4s as the best about at the moment there are quite a few vids on YouTube with comparisons
4. A lot of people do this you can either mount mesh to the inside of your bumper or go down the zunsports route, if you go that way put up a thread asking for a discount code someone will have one
5. Again up to you depending upon which look you like some do some don't swap them, if you wait or again post you might get a good second hand set off the forum
6. Not sure on this one
7. Get things like this from your OPC and always check prices with them for any OEM parts as they are normally the cheapest and they will deliver for free. If you say you are a forum member they should also give you a 10% discount if you buy quite a few parts and get cheeky you might get more off

3. Michelins are generally regarded on here as the best all round.

4. Zunsport grilles or a DIY alternative will protect your rads from most flying debris.

Thanks for the detailed reply... I see you also have a Cabriolet, do you put anything on it to weather proof it ?

The autoglym cleaner and protector kit is the best, once you use it the water just beads off the roof. I have tried others but they don't work as well and the turtle wax one is a waste of money :thumb:

Perfect - just ordered it off Amazon for £20 👍

my 2p on you questions mate

1 - I need new rear discs. I'd like to change them myself and have looked at what's available. Pagid and Sebra are available at EuroCarParts. Are these any good... or should I be looking at something else?

100% pagid dont go near any thing else , I was talked into it and removed them within 48 hrs and gave them back to UCP in exchange for pagid telling them they were considerably worse than 5h1t but hadnt got an expletive bad enough to describe my thoughts. pads Pagid as well.

2 - I'll change pads when changing the discs, but what pads? And should I do the handbrake pads at the same time?

up to you would be worth it esprecially if its a manual

3 - Front tyres. I have Pirelli's all round at the moment, I have read that Michelin are favoured, should I go down that route?

Most as you say used Michelin if the budget allows the MP4S otherwise look t MPSS .

4 - Front Grills - I have a lot of leaves and debris in the front, should I put a grill on the front or is this a Porsche faux pas.

Grilles are perfectly acceptable either fit the easy to fit zunsport or the bumper off OE or make yourself ones.

5 - LED rear lights... as above yes or no?
your choice but IMO the Led rear lights are a nice upgrade.

6 - Car Cover - I'd like a good fitted outdoor cover for the time it may not be used in the winter.

If you must use an outdoor car cover you really need to also have an indoor cover you put on first otherwise the outdoor cover will on windy days knock against the bodywork and scuff the paintwork.

7 - Last one for now.... the 90 degree turning clips in the luggage department, know where I can get any?

used on ebay or from a Porsche specialist breaker like douglas valley breakers or Boxter bits , from your local opc for new ones.

hope that helps :thumb: :thumb:

Nice one mate!

I'm the same, Gen 1 cab. I had a 996 a few years back and missed her when I sold her so back into a porker recently.

I've been looking at lights since I had LED's o my 996 and looked great. I've been told to go for the German Dectaine model by my local Indi who has seen a ton of them. Seemed to imply they were the best quality version (although a bit more £ than the rest). I've just covered mine in a light smoke vynal for now to take the brightness out of the lenses, also to modernise it further I fitted a set of LED cluster lamps in the front side lights (I don't like the yellow tint in the standard bulbs when headlights are on, don't use them to be day time running lamps or anything, just drive with headlights on instead for safety).

Vynal wrap was around £20 and removable and LED sidelights were £5 each. Also got a few chromed amber bulbs to remove the fried egg effect in the indicators all around the car.

Looks like you have a ton of other responses on the other questions, so won't give my view on those.

Personally I don't like the engine note on the car and it's a cab so I want to hear the car, getting the gundo back completed in mid Oct to increase the volume a bit.
