Hi,

I need help on C4S suspension part number effectivity...

I recently replaced my rear dampers. In advance I ordered new 'additional springs" from Porsche. This are the yellow/orange foam balls that go on the damper piston. The existing dampers were original Porsche parts and I believe they have been installed since factory - never replaced. I gave Porsche the chassis number and they gave me the parts per the system. When I went to install them, they were different to the installed part. Porsche had provided the 996 333 105 02 part number, which according to the parts catalogue is the standard part number. The P/N installed on my dampers ( I presume since factory) was 996 333 105 03. In the parts catalogue this is shown as the part for the IX73/C4S coupe. The latter is shorter than the standard P/N and makes sense as the C4S is 10mm lower than standard. Therefore it seems the installed P/N was correct and the Porsche parts system was wrong. As the originals turned out to be in good condition and not perished, I transferred them to the new damper and Porsche kindly refunded me for the new parts. Everything was good.

Move on to last weekend – as my LH top mount needs to be replaced, I had a look to see what condition the 'additional spring" was in as memory told me it had a split – and indeed it did. So I took a photo of the P/N installed – 996 343 301 02 and looked it up in the parts catalogue. This shows as the standard P/N in the catalogue. The IX73 and C4S P/N shows as 996 343 980 09. The front dampers were replaced by a previous owner so it is possible the incorrect additional springs were installed at that time, but I have no way to tell and now I'm not sure which P/N to buy.

I know that 99% of the time these are not critical parts but I as I am replacing it I would like to buy the right one. Can anyone provide guidance on which part I should use? The Porsche Parts guy doesn't know and the Porsche Parts system isn't always the most accurate in my experience so I am not sure which to buy.

Thanks

note the difference in size - not that I think that I will ever be pushing my suspension to the limits, but I'll probably go with the shorter one if no one else has any advice.

Thanks
