The introduction from the 997 range onwards of the use of VTG Turbos in the Porsche models is now causing a maintenance issue.
As these cars now become older it is common that the turbos leak exhaust gas from the canister due to corrosion. Unfortunately the canister is not a part that can be purchased separately even from BW. This has meant that many owners have been faced with the news that they need to purchase a new set of turbos from Porsche at a staggering cost of £4150+vat each (current price).
This has been further compounded by the lack of availability even from Porsche. Other external sources have also dried up.
With the 996 Turbos it has always been possible to strip the turbo and rebuild completely, with only a few exceptional cases of it being more economical to find a new donor set.
With the 997 VTG second hand sets are available but again you can find yourself in the same position in a short space of time.
Unfortunately there really is no preventative measures that can be taken to prevent the on set of corrosion of the canister.
When the VTG is stripped, and the canister corrosion removed, there is not enough metal to connect back to the turbine housing. The result is that these VTG then get consigned to the bin.
Here are 9e, we see these more and more frequently now. So over the past 4 months we have been looking to manufacturer a solution to enable the VTG to be refurbed completely even when the canister is rusted away. Finally after a number of iterations of a solution we have one in place.
We are currently keeping 3 full sets in stock at any one time.
Prices
1. Supply only set of 997 VTGs fully refurbed with 2 year warranty £3795+vat on exchange *
2. Supply and fitment - please call.
* a surcharge of £750+vat is charged and will be refunded in 14 working days if the core units are okay. in 90% of cases the surcharge will be refundable but we have seen one case were the canister was so far gone it was impossible to repair (that is exceptional).
