Few days back i bought my Michelin MP4S (sport) tyres all 4 corners and got phone call yesterday to say there in so today i arranged to get them fitted.when they fitted the tyres on the alloys it was a young boy doing them so all was good and waited in the waiting room and thought let me go to the fitting bay to have a look and this is what i saw...... they fitted the weights on the close to the rim where you can see it.. i pulled up the guy to one side and said would you drive a car like this with weights showing?? We appologised and tried to explain. Didnt wanna know i said take all 4 corners off and and balance the weights using statuc balance cos i aint driving my car like that, the boss came out and was appologetic which was all good. The tyre shop is a massive place and very busy ... finaly sorted it... but what a difference these Michelins are .....

Just looking at a set of these but struggling with sizes. What did you go with 295 or 305 rears?

Can I ask where you sourced them from please?

Black Circles had the best price when I did my fronts a couple of weeks ago. Try them and Camskill. I got mine from my local F1 though who price matched. My local F1 are excellent and I've used them for years.

I like mine balanced both edges of the rim if required - gives a smoother ride. But then my wheels don't need that many weights so you don't notice them. Are your rims buckled at all?

I'd sooner have mine balanced with edge weights. Who cares if they're visible, so long as they're decent quality weights :dont know:

It's more aesthetically pleasing than your rusty wheel bolts & plastic tyre caps.

I balence these with weights on the inside and outside , i dont use static but i do use colour coded weights but im not here to argue and static will hide the weights .. those in the picture are rather bright shall we say !

Anyways my point here and about Michelins .. which is something you lot probably already know but was a bit of an eye opener for me the other day ..

Michelin tyres .. car in for service and we always road test the cars before we start work on them ..

R/T all good , no faults but on the service each tyre was the best part of 0.5 bar down .. so i set them to book settings ..

R/T after work done .. stuff me the road noise from the tyres .. i know Michelins are noisy but i hadnt realised that a lower pressure actually shut them up !!

It would be interesting to know if a few psi lower would also make them quiet as i think 0.5 bar is a little too much but for me it was interesting to learn this..

Just goes to show theres still much i can learn !

....and static balancing is poor on car with wheels as wide as a 997.

Static balancing on a wheel that wide, really! It's not a vintage car with pram wheels :floor:

Still, it's not as bad as a mate who recently needed to get tyres replaced when in France on holiday. They used hammer on weights on the rims of his 458, he was less than happy. Although the weights drew the eye away from the damage inflicted by the tyre machine operator and this was at a garage recommended by the Ferrari roadside assistance! He's currently in negotiations for two new wheels :D

I always wonder what wear on suspension parts and wheel bearings you're creating by not having the wheels balanced properly, ie. dynamically.

I just feel sorry for the guys who did their job properly. I wonder who won 'annoying customer of the week award' at that establishment?

There seems to be a lot of weights there. The tyre should have been moved around a bit & re balanced
Bridgestone and Dunlop use a yellow dot, which should be placed next to the valve. If there are two dots on the tyre, then that point should be placed opposite the valve. Not all tyre companies bother, notably Avon and Michelin don't.The dot merely marks the heaviest/lightest point on the tyre so you can get away with the least possible number of balance weights

I had a MPS4's fitted to a set of brand new OEM rear wheels and they needed weights just like this. Bit annoying.

Think yourself lucky they didn't trash your wheels whilst fitting the tyres,i have seen some right horror stories.

I thought static balancing was meant for Motor bikes?

I v only had it done once by a wheel refurbisher and the car drove dreadfully, so had them rebalanced dynamically

Are you sure you know what your talking about ?

I got all four tyres very cheap and was lucky!! No my wheels are no buckled at all, the old tyres were static weighed by previous owner. All tyres are never perfect when they are made from manufacturer. I went back and got them re-done using black low profile weights which you cant notice at all! The wheel with the most weights. I told the guy to take the air out and rotate the tyre half way round then re-balance the wheel. Now there only 2 small weights. The tyre shop specialises in high end cars and there are always range rovers, porshes and ferraris when i drive by, isnt no corner shop with a car jack on the floor....

These MP4S tyres seem hard to find, had to wait 4 days for delivery no one had them when they tried to order, even Black Circles didnt have them. And to also get them cheap, now that was a result!

Cheers

J
