Has anyone done this and what parts do I need ?
Will modifying the induction arrangement affect the gearbox function?

FWIW, I have .2 3.6 Tip and did a bit of research on here about this.

It seemed that the induction kits available stated they were for manual only because the tips have a gearbox breather pipe that plugs into the intake hose. I considered using a manual kit and getting a small breather filter for the breather. For now though, I decided to just remove the resonator from the airbox and plug the resulting hole. The result was a pleasing increase in induction noise.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your reply. That is very useful.
Ideally I want to improve the noise and keep things looking standard so if I can remove the resonator and the plug the hole in the lid and the hose and it runs fine?

IIRC a member on here worked with Samco directly to make a specific hose for the tips - think it's on eBay?

IMO options are
1/ buy the samco kit with the breather pipe attached mod a res bung and a BMC sports filter , thats the best option
2/ buy a res bung and a bmc sports filter
3/ just buy a bung and keep the OE paper filter
4/ just by a BMC filter.

option 1 and 2 are the better options IMO :thumb:

heres the thread where forum member Steve worked with Samco to develop this silicon hose with the breather adaption for the 996 tip

So can I remove the resonator and bung the airbox hole and the one in the intake hose?

Yes mate the samco kit with the tip breather mod allows you to cap the res in situ I dont think the samco cap can double as a bung if you remove the res box completly I think its designed as a cap only . you then fit the silicon hose connect your tip breather pipe to the modified extra feed. add a BMC sports filter and enjoy a free breathing, free reving 996 with a nice induction note and a couple of free extra BHP . this IMO is a mod that every 996/997 owner should do it stops that wheezy engine note from stock. :thumb: :thumb: and its an induction mod that the ECU can easily adapt for , so no need for a remap unlike things like the fabspeed set up on my gen2 which needs a remap as the ECU cant handle the change in parameters.

  and thanks for your thoughts on the 997 airbox I had assumed you meant the carbon dipped 997.1 one and not the fabspeed performance induction kit I have on the 997.2 but wasnt totally sure lol. :thumb: :thumb:
