Is the Aston Martin Vantage becoming a serious bargain?

I always like selecting AM in the manufacturer section on Autotrader to see what's going on. I've noticed for the last few months now the prices of Vantages and DB9s becoming IMHO seriously cheap.

Mid 20s now gets you what seems like a good bargain. Have they rock bottomed? Are they going to soar in price? :dont know:
I remember a few years ago when you could pick up a DB7 for £13k. Lucky to find something under 20 now.

A quick gander now brings up these:

Edited due to links not working.

I just get shopping links, you on commission Alex :dont know:

I know that they have problems and the build quality is not the best but seriously they just look and sound amazing. :cloud9:

Surely anyone who's a dab hand with the spanners, wd-40 and a hairdryer shouldn't have a problem :dont know:

:agree:

Try talking to some current owners and Indy specialists. The AM group on PHs is also a mine of information. There is a very good specialist here in Macclesfield that will have up-to-date info on build quality, reliability, costs of ownership and values.

They are cheap/good value but every single person I've spoken to that's owned one said that they would never buy another one, reliability, deprecation and build quality being their main bug bears.
Saying that they probably forked out over a £100k for their cars so having it break down or fall to bits probably would have tainted their opinion!
They do look the 'dogs' though, can't deny that.

Got to agree with the above :bandit:
I know off two new cars that are now on the second engine. I wouldn't touch one but I wouldn't mind a poster of one in the man cave.

I mate of mine was telling me he knows a few owners and they always claimed the cars spent more time with the dealer than with them. Surely a car with 70k on it all of a sudden isn't going to need a new engine?

Rue story

A holiday owner in my village drove his new 4,000 miles DB9 straight down to Cornwall after picking it up from Austin Martin Berkley Square

He 's in my local pub and the locals have all had a look at the Austin

I mentioned about removing fuse 22 to make the exhaust permanently loud and as he lived in St Albans, Aston Martin Works service in Newport Pagnall, might be a better bet than taking it Back to Aston Martin off the A40,

He looked at me as if to say who is this guy in the end of Cornwall who thinks he's an expert.

3 months later I see him in the pub and he sends
me over a pint... then comes across.

Sorry Mark I l I now know who you are.

I ve had ten car 14 weeks, its spent 11 of them at Austin.
I ve told them if it breaks down again to send a cheque book with the Recovery truck.

They look good, sound great

But they're like a TVR, Held together with Copydex,
electrical bits from Ford Mondeos and Volvos,
they will break down, not because you bought a bad car, its the nature of the beast.

DB9 servicing bills are just horrendous and as for a Vanquish S, £7,000 for a service is normal.

I wouldn't own one without an Aston Warranty

They're an improvement on the old V8 series that had Morris Marina door handles :floor:

Sum of a box of parts not 'engineered' by AM.

PeterS had one and says they're are shiote :thumb:

Have a neighbour who has the drophead DB9. Looks and sounds great but I'm not sure if the curb link neckchain, ID bracelet, singlet and blue 2-tone Sub-Mariner comes as part of the 'design' package :what:

Prices should drop as DB11 starts to populate the roads. Unless Jonttt tells me otherwise

Sounds to me like you need to move house Zingers, mind you I think you've just described a local S/H car dealer down to a tee!

I love them but like Zingers mentioned both my neighbours had one and I never heard so much swearing from two normally polite gentleman as when they were talking about the latest problem to relieve them of large sums of money.

We arranged many Sunday drives with me in my old cayman and another guy with a 993 and I dont think we ever managed to go with both Aston's in the same trip.

One of the guys had three approved used Astons in a row and reckoned they cost him 6K a year in running costs, he thinks his Range Rovers are paragons of reliability in comparison.

Another friend who owns a garage had a Vantage and sold it after six months as he reckoned it was more trouble than any other car he had owned including Ferraris . When I said I was interested in buying his he refused to let me buy it !

Great looking and sounding cars but I would tread carefully unless you are very handy or have deep pockets.

I had a DB9 when they had just come out , I called it my £1500 car because every time something went wrong and it was often the bill was around £1500. they look and sound lovely but they really are expensive to run. constant stream of niggly things , I doubt I would by AML again
as for depreciation I lost £50k in 4 years of ownership it cost 3.5 times what my first 997.1 cost me and the 997 was a better driving car it was more reliable and running costs minimal and when I sold it I got 3k more than I had paid for it. they are very much chalk and cheese cars.

Aston wanted £1400 to do the brake pads FFS ended up taking it to an indy and paid £850 for 4 F*^king pads that was the last straw and it went soon after that
